Description and characteristics of the variety
The correct name of the variety is “Banana”, but on some resources the variety is known as the “Banana Ural Summer Resident” tomato. The plant is of indeterminate type, 1.5-1.7 meters in height, belongs to the mid-season tomatoes, from germination to fruiting 100-110 days. Suitable for greenhouses and open ground.
When formed into several stems, a rather powerful bush is obtained. The inflorescences are simple, the cluster contains 4-7 elongated (10-13 cm) tomatoes, each weighing 80-120 grams. The shape is oblong, with a blunt tip. The color of ripe fruits is red, uniform, without spots or stripes. The pulp is dense, fleshy. The fruits have a characteristic tomato flavor.
Features of cultivation, planting and care
sowing the seeds of this tomato variety for seedlings 60-65 days before the intended planting in the ground . Seedlings dive at the stage of 2 true leaves. When planting seedlings in a permanent place per 1 sq. up to 4 plants are placed per meter of plot.
When planting tomatoes, we recommend adding 0.5 cups of ash, 1 tablespoon each of superphosphate and potassium sulfate, as well as 1 tbsp. spoon of fish meal.
Further care for tomatoes consists of timely watering, weed removal, partial pinching, fertilizing and preventive measures to protect against diseases and pests.
When growing tomatoes in a greenhouse, we recommend installing a drip irrigation system - this will save your time and effort, as well as increase plant productivity and reduce the risk of late blight.
Advantages and disadvantages

Landing
The Bananchik tomato is quite undemanding and does not require any specific care in comparison with other varieties, therefore the scheme for growing tomatoes of this variety is traditional for most other tomatoes. It is important that the room in which the seedlings will be located is well ventilated and has sufficient lighting.
Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out approximately 60-65 days before the expected date of planting the seedlings in the ground, that is, at the end of February or beginning of March. To prevent possible diseases, the seeds are pre-soaked in a weakly concentrated solution of potassium permanganate, and then germinated on a saucer, after which they are placed in universal soil for tomatoes or in a mixture consisting of equal parts of sand and peat.
Growing seedlings
After germination, the main care for seedlings consists of regular watering with warm water. It is necessary to water with a thin stream strictly at the root of the plant, trying not to get on the stem and leaves.
An important step in growing seedlings is picking, that is, transplanting from a common container into separate cups. Picking tomatoes of the Bananchik variety is done after one or two true leaves appear on the plants.
Landing in the ground
The future harvest of tomatoes largely depends on correct and timely planting in the ground or greenhouse. It is produced in May, after consistently warm weather has established itself. When planting in open ground, it is recommended to choose southern or southeastern areas of land for seedlings, well lit by the sun and protected from strong winds.
Prepared holes for tomatoes are fertilized with humus and shed generously with water. The tomatoes are placed in holes, deepening them into the ground as much as possible, watered again and sprinkled with dry soil on top.
Description of the variety
The dessert variety Bananchik is relatively new; it was patented in 2014, and in 2015 it was approved for use for cultivation in open ground and in greenhouses in all regions of Russia. It was bred as an alternative to the Banana Legs variety, and, according to reviews from gardeners, it far surpassed it in taste. Among its main advantages are the following:
- high yield, reaching 10-12 kg/m2 under favorable circumstances;
- unpretentiousness to weather conditions;
- resistance to many diseases, including late blight, powdery mildew, fusarium wilt and tobacco mosaic virus.
This variety of tomatoes is a tall one, its bushes can reach a height of 160-180 cm, and according to some gardeners, under favorable conditions they become more like trees and sometimes grow up to 2.5 m in height, reaching right up to the ceiling of the greenhouse. The leaves are dark green and elongated, the fruits are large, fleshy, their weight averages 110-200 g, and the length of the largest of them reaches 13 cm. Up to 9 tomatoes are formed in each cluster.
Harvest ripening occurs 110-125 days after emergence, so the variety is classified as late-ripening.
Due to their cylindrical shape and yellow-orange color, the fruits resemble bananas, which is why this tomato got its name. Tomatoes have a delicate taste, almost no sourness, and a fruity aftertaste, really similar to a banana.
The variety is considered a salad variety, but is also excellent for direct fresh consumption, as well as for canning whole fruits. Tomatoes look impressive in jars and look original when sliced.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
The Banana Legs tomato variety has many advantages. With proper care and compliance with all growing rules, you are guaranteed a generous harvest.
The main advantages of the variety:
- good yield indicator;
- ease of cultivation and care;
- the fruits have a bright color and interesting shape;
- have a delicate, slightly sweet taste and pleasant aroma;
- resistance to many diseases;
- the plant can be grown without seedlings;
- They can equally easily tolerate both heat and slight cold;
- the ability to grow both in open ground and in greenhouse conditions;
- seeds have a high percentage of germination (up to 97%);
- tolerates transplanting and diving well;
- good transportability;
- all tomatoes ripen almost simultaneously;
- long-term storage of ripe fruits.
With all the advantages of the tomato, it is worth mentioning one more thing - the Banana Legs variety has practically no disadvantages. If any problems appear while growing tomatoes, it means that there were violations in the planting or care rules.
If the planting is too dense or there is a lack of sunlight, the yield and taste of the fruit will change for the worse.
