Bendrik's Cream tomato has gained a good reputation among farmers. The variety is easy to cultivate and unpretentious to climatic conditions. Tomatoes are used universally: fresh and for numerous preparations.

Description of the variety

Being a mid-early tomato, Bendrick's Cream ripens 100-110 days after germination. The self-terminating stem does not grow more than 100 cm.

Other exterior features:

Fruit

As the name suggests, the fruits of this variety are shaped like cream. The skin color is yellow or red depending on the variety. The nominal weight of one fruit is 60-80 grams.

Application of fruits

"Bendrick's Cream" is a universal table variety. It allows you to solve a variety of culinary tasks :

• Eat fresh or chopped into salad. Tomatoes have an excellent presentation, have an appetizing cut and a refined aroma;
• Whole fruit canning. Compact fruits fit perfectly into the neck of the jar and do not burst during heat treatment;
• Barrel salting;
• Drying in the sun, oven or dryer;
• Processing into juice, tomato paste or lecho.

IMPORTANT : The yellow variety of “Bendrick’s Cream” has low acidity, therefore it is indicated for use by people suffering from ulcers, colitis and other gastrointestinal diseases.

Growing tomatoes

The tomato is suitable for growing in open ground and greenhouses. By tying the stem to a post or trellis, it is possible to completely eliminate the risk of branches breaking off under the weight of the fruit clusters. It is advisable to choose a sunny site, protected from gusts of wind. “Slivka” should not be planted in a place vacated by other nightshade plants.

How to prepare seeds?

Before planting, seeds must be prepared for planting to improve germination, strengthen immunity and increase yield. Preparation includes the following activities :

• Selection of whole, uniformly colored seeds without signs of spoilage;
• Destruction of surface microbes by keeping seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide;
• Growth stimulation with the help of special preparations (“Epin-Extra”, “Zircon”);
• Soak in water at room temperature for 24 hours before planting.

REFERENCE : Good results are obtained by bubbling, which is soaking seeds in water using an aquarium compressor. Oxygen-saturated liquid promotes the awakening of seeds and reduces the overall ripening period by 3-7 days.

Sowing seed material

Seedlings are sown approximately 2 months before planting in a permanent location. The choice of container is not of fundamental importance - the main thing is that the container contains drainage holes. A mixture of garden turf, peat, sand and humus in an amount of at least 10% of the total mass is usually prepared as a substrate.

Seeds are sown in furrows to a depth of 1.5 cm and covered with film or glass to create a greenhouse effect (28-30*C). After pipping the sprouts, the cover is removed and the seedlings are exposed to light. The main process of seedling vegetation occurs at a temperature of 22-24*C. Picking is carried out after the formation of the second true leaf.

With the seedless growing method, sowing is carried out in early May, then by the end of August it will be possible to harvest.

Rules for planting seedlings

Transplantation should be carried out carefully, trying not to damage the sensitive root system of young plants. Under each bush, lay a nutrient cushion in the form of 200 grams of vermicompost, a handful of humus and a tablespoon of wood ash.

Recommended planting pattern:

1. Depth of planting holes -15 cm;
2. The interval between plants is 30-40 cm;
3. Row spacing is 100-120 cm.

Landing

The seeds are pre-prepared for sowing. Among the preparatory activities:

• selection of uniform seeds without defects;
• rejection by soaking in a saline solution (leaving seeds that have settled to the bottom);
• disinfection against bacteria (1% potassium permanganate or peroxide);
• activation with Epin, Agate;
• soaking for 20–24 hours in settled water.

Increased germination and earlier fruiting are achieved by bubbling. The ripening procedure is reduced to 5–7 days.

Bush care

Bushes "Cream of Bendrick" need timely formation. It begins 14 days after landing for permanent residence. It is recommended to gradually plant 2-3 leaves per stump. The plant must be maintained strictly in 1 stem, removing all side shoots and pinching the tops above the 3rd cluster.

Secrets of care from the originator of the variety Bendrik A.N.:

• Watering. Water when the soil dries out, in the morning, at the root. Avoid contact of liquid with green parts of plants. Water for irrigation should be settled and warm. In cold weather, do not water;
• Mulching with mowed grass immediately after watering;
• During flowering, spray the bed with “Bioglobin”;
• At the stage of blange ripeness, further hill up , creating a ridge. This is necessary to remove excess moisture;
• During periods of sudden cold snap, cover with polyethylene.

ATTENTION : Immediately after planting, the bushes must be hilled on both sides, forming an irrigation ditch in the middle of the row spacing.

Growing and care

Rules of agricultural technology:

1. Hydration. Water once every 4–6 days, the time for the procedure is morning or evening. Use settled water (22–24 degrees). When it gets cold, watering is reduced or stopped.
2. Spraying for better setting . Use Bioglobin or boric acid.
3. Mulching. Use sawdust, straw, peat. The layer should be 7–10 cm.
4. Hilling. It is carried out at blanche ripeness.
5. Covering with film . When there is a threat of frost, the beds are covered with agrofibre or polyethylene.

Productivity

“Bendrick's cream” forms up to 25 fruits in each brush. The average yield of the variety is about 15 kg of tomatoes per 1 sq.m of bed. A ripe brush can remain on the bush for up to 3 weeks.

Which regions are best to grow in?

The variety was bred in the Chernigov region of Ukraine, so it is ideal for cultivation in the southern regions of Russia, where cultivation in open ground without seedlings is practiced.

In the middle zone, tomatoes are grown under film covers and in stationary greenhouses.

This variety is the result of many years of work by the national breeder from Ukraine, Alexander Nikolaevich Bendrik. Indeterminate, medium-sized (1.2-1.5 m), mid-season.
