Pros and cons of the variety
- The Buyan tomato variety has the following advantages over other varieties:
- does not require gartering or pinching;
- resistance to drought, cold and temperature changes;
- the ability to grow both in open and closed ground;
- this is not a hybrid, and it is possible to stock up on seeds yourself;
- early fruit ripening;
- high productivity;
- excellent taste;
- versatility of purpose;
- small fruits suitable for canning whole.
- This variety has several disadvantages:
- its fruits do not have good keeping quality;
- they can begin to crack if there is a lack of light, a large number of fruits, excess moisture or an excess of fertilizers.
In this case, it is necessary to reduce watering and fertilizing, and check the optimal lighting in greenhouses.
Description of the tomato variety Buyan (Fighter) with photo
The Fighter variety is a determinate tomato that is not a hybrid; seeds can be collected for subsequent sowing.
The yellow variety of Buyan has not only quality characteristics, but also a “festive” color
Belongs to the standard type. This is a pure-varietal plant, bred through selection rather than crossing different varieties. The seeds retain and transmit all varietal characteristics.
External parameters:
- Bush about 50 cm high, medium leafy. Shoot formation is moderate. The stem is strong, the internodes are short.
- The leaves of the tomato are dark green, small in size and tomato-type with strong corrugation.
- The flowers are yellow, the inflorescences are simple. The first is laid over the 6th sheet, the next after 2 sheets.
- Fruit clusters form 5-7 ovaries, from which 3 tomatoes ripen.
The variety matures early. The growing season is 90-105 days. Buyan is grown outdoors and in greenhouses.
Fruit clusters form 5-7 ovaries
Important! The Buyan tomato variety does not require pinching.
Description of fruits
The fruits of the Buyan variety have their own characteristic features:
- oval, plum-shaped, some resemble a cylinder;
- the skin is dense, strong, smooth;
- color yellow or red (depending on the variety);
- the pulp is dense, juicy, aromatic;
- the tomato taste is rich, sweet with a slight sourness;
- the number of seeds does not exceed 5% of the total weight of the fruit;
- the weight of one tomato is about 180 g.
The first fruits of the variety are always larger than the subsequent ones, which weigh no more than 80-100 g.
Ripe fruits on the bushes have a very attractive appearance
Ripe tomatoes are stored for a short time.
Agricultural technology
Considering the fact that Fighter can be successfully cultivated in all regions of Russia, both in open and closed ground, it is best to calculate the time for sowing seeds yourself. On average, this period in the middle zone falls at the beginning of March, in the south - mid-February, and in cold climates - late March or early April.
Small plants are placed quite densely in the garden bed - 6 - 7 pieces per 1 square meter. When planting in two lines, the distance between tomato bushes is 30 - 40 cm, the row spacing is at least 50 cm. Growing the crop is quite easy. Despite the fact that the recommendations do not contain instructions on staking and bush formation, experienced gardeners do not neglect these rules.
During the ripening period, heavy fruit clusters can easily tilt the stem to one side or even break it. Watering is carried out in a timely manner, fertilizing is required, at least 2 - 3 during the growing season. In the southern regions, seeds can be sown directly into the ground. But it should be taken into account that seed consumption will increase. The sowing time in this case is no later than the first ten days of May.
Fighter is an excellent universal variety suitable for all regions. Care is simple, so even beginners can begin cultivating the variety. Tomato is also suitable for busy gardeners. With proper care, the yield will not fail, and housewives will be able to prepare many delicious preparations.
Buyan’s strong immunity makes it possible to minimize the number of treatments, which in turn increases the environmental friendliness of the fruit. The plant can also be grown in dense plantings, which significantly saves planting space in small areas. A big plus is the ability to prepare seed material yourself.
Seeds for seedlings are sown in late March - early April. The seedlings are quite strong and do not stretch even in low light. Agricultural techniques for cultivating the yellow-fruited variety are completely identical to those described above. But there are still exceptions. The variety is grown only by seedlings. The planting density of tomatoes is not so high - 4 plants per 1 square meter. But the landing pattern is the same.
Buyan yellow is valued for its high resistance to adverse weather conditions, which allows tomato growers in regions with difficult weather conditions to enjoy excellent yellow-fruited tomatoes. The yield is higher than that of the red-fruited Fighter, and the immunity and other characteristics are completely the same.
Let's sum it up
The Fighter variety is good for pickling and pickling, because the skin on tomatoes is very dense and does not crack. The fact that the fruits are strong is noticeable even in the photo. They are also delicious raw, dried or stewed, but they cannot be kept fresh for long.
Many gardeners who have planted the Fighter variety at least once call it the ideal tomato. With such a high yield, it is easy to care for and does not require gartering or pruning. The fact that the tomato is not afraid of the big difference between day and night air temperatures is causing rave reviews. At the same time, the Fighter also matures quickly.
Perhaps the Buyan tomato has only one drawback. It cannot be stored fresh for a long time. At the same time, all beneficial substances are completely preserved in frozen fruits and the taste is not lost.
For central Russia and places with cold climates, there is no better variety of tomatoes than this one.
Bush care
In the southern regions, this variety can be grown by immediately sowing the seeds in the beds. However, in most areas, tomatoes are grown in seedlings. Many gardeners often grow seedlings themselves at home, and some grow them in a greenhouse.
Since tomatoes are light-loving plants, you should choose a well-lit place to grow their seedlings. At home, this is a window facing south, east or west. Beds and structures for planting it should also be chosen in sunny places. The optimal daylight hours should be at least 12 hours.
Did you know? In greenhouses, mustard is planted between the bushes to protect tomatoes from diseases and improve the soil.
To obtain sprouts, a temperature of 25 ºС is suitable, and when they grow up, it is enough to maintain 20… 22 ºС during the day and 16… 17 ºС at night. When tomato fruits ripen, the temperature should be slightly higher - 24... 26 ºС, and at night not lower than 17... 18 ºС. It is very important to ensure that the temperature does not rise to 30 ºС or higher, since under such conditions tomatoes lose their ability to set fruit. To reduce the temperature to normal, the greenhouse needs to be ventilated.
A polycarbonate greenhouse must have at least 3 windows for ventilation, and they must be not only side, but also top. It is optimal if the greenhouse is equipped with a thermometer, hygrometer and an automatic ventilation system if the set temperature is exceeded. When growing crops during periods of short days, it is necessary to adjust lighting.
The best soil moisture for tomatoes is 70%, and for air - 60%.
To grow seedlings, you can buy ready-made soil, or you can make such a soil mixture yourself - mix black soil from the garden with purchased soil. For better looseness, you can add sand and vermiculite to them. Whatever soil you choose, its acidity should be within 6-7 pH.
Before planting, it is necessary to disinfect the soil and planting material. At home, soil can be disinfected by calcining it in the oven or watering it with a 3% solution of copper sulfate a few days before planting. In the greenhouse, the top layer of soil (about 10 cm) is removed. Disinfect the surface of the greenhouse with a 1% solution of copper sulfate (if this was not done in the fall) and spray the soil with a less saturated solution (5 g of copper sulfate per 10 liters).
To replace the top greenhouse soil, you can prepare a fertile mixture of chernozem and humus in a 1:1 ratio. Approximately 4 kg of ash and 0.5 kg of ammonium nitrate are added to each cubic meter of soil mixture. Acidic soil should be limed.
Tomato seeds are soaked in a saline solution (1 tablespoon of salt per 1 liter of water) and the floating unusable seeds are removed. If the seeds were collected from healthy fruits, then they can already be soaked, wrapped in damp gauze. When there is doubt about the seed, it should first be soaked in a light solution of potassium permanganate for 20–30 minutes and then washed with water. Such seeds should be kept in stimulants (for example, Epine) before sowing.
Sowing technology
Sowing seeds to obtain tomato seedlings of the Buyan variety is carried out in late March - early April.
Important! When sowing seeds, it should be taken into account that seedlings of early ripening varieties are planted in a permanent place at the age of 50–55 days from emergence.
The seeds are embedded in moistened soil to a depth of about 1-2 cm, and again moistened from above with a spray bottle. Then the planting container is covered with film and placed in a warm place. It is ventilated daily, while simultaneously checking the humidity. When shoots appear, the film is removed and the container with tomatoes is transferred to a lighted place.
Seedlings are planted in open ground when warm weather sets in and the temperature at night does not drop below 8 ºС. The bed for it needs to be selected and prepared in the fall.
Determinate varieties are usually planted with row spacing of 0.5–0.6 cm and a distance between plants in a row of 40 cm. They can be planted in a checkerboard pattern of 40x40 cm. The same patterns can be followed when planting in a greenhouse. Bushes in limited conditions of protected soil can be thickened a little, but keep in mind that there should be no more than 8 Buyan tomatoes per 1 m².
- The best predecessors for tomatoes are:
- cabbage;
- onion;
- carrot;
- zucchini.
Important! You should not plant a tomato twice in a row in the same place or after other nightshade vegetables (potatoes, eggplants, peppers). Their cultivation in greenhouses should be alternated with cucumbers.
"Buyan" has a lot of advantages:
- High yield;
- Fast ripening;
- Universal purpose;
- Drought resistance;
- Resistant to temperature changes.
The main disadvantage of the variety is poor keeping quality. "Buyan" is not intended for long-term fresh storage.
“Buyan” feels great both in a greenhouse and in open ground. In both cases, cultivation is carried out through seedlings.
Proper seed preparation increases plant germination from a nominal 60 to 90%. The process is carried out as follows:
- Soak. Two days before planting, the seed material is placed in melt water for several hours. To do this, freeze a piece of ice in the freezer, then remove it and leave it to thaw. The first thawed water is drained, and the next one is used for soaking;
- Disinfection. 24 hours before sowing, the seeds are “etched” with a weak solution of potassium permanganate to destroy surface bacteria and fungi;
IMPORTANT: Seeds that float to the surface or are empty must be discarded.
- Treatment with growth stimulants (Zircon, Epin-Extra). The procedure is performed immediately before sowing to strengthen the immune system and speed up the growing season.
Seeds are sown in March, 2 months before the intended planting in the ground. The container for seedlings must meet two requirements:
- Depth at least 5 cm;
- Presence of drainage holes.
Most often they are sown in a wooden box. The seeds are evenly spread over the surface, then sprinkled with 1-2 cm of peat. After sowing, the seedlings are watered abundantly, covered with film and placed in a lighted room with a temperature of 22-24*C. After 5 days, shoots appear and the film is removed. Seedlings need to be constantly watered, not allowing the soil to dry out, and fed with complex fertilizers every two weeks.
Picking is carried out after the formation of the 2nd true leaf. It is advisable to dive into separate peat pots. Subsequently, this will save time when transplanting into the garden and relieve the plants from additional stress.
Seedlings are transplanted to a permanent place 60 days after sowing. It can be planted in a greenhouse in the last ten days of April, in open ground - in May. The soil must be warmed up to at least 10*C. "Buyan" can withstand short-term frosts, but hypothermia can negatively affect yields. Therefore, planting time is calculated based on the date of the last frost.
Recommended planting pattern:
- Planting depth – 15 cm;
- The interval between bushes is 30 cm;
- Row spacing – 50 cm;
- The maximum permissible density is 9 plants per 1 sq.m.
Agricultural technology for growing Buyan requires compliance with the basic rules:
- Regular watering 25-30 cm into the ground. Tomatoes do not like surface irrigation, so you should avoid getting water on the leaves and branches of the plants. Root watering is carried out early in the morning or late in the evening every 2-5 days, depending on the weather. The greatest effect is achieved by a drip irrigation system;
- Loosening. Loosen as needed, but at least once every 5 days. The main rule is to prevent the formation of a hard earthen crust.
- Weeding. Combine with loosening. The area must be free of weeds. This will not only increase productivity, but also protect the bushes from many diseases and pests;
- Feeding. They are carried out twice, alternating organic and mineral products.
Being a low-growing variety with a powerful stem, “Buyan” does not require pinching or staking.
Like any cultivated plant, bushes require careful handling:
- Alternating cycles of watering, drying and fluffing the soil.
- Timely weeding and fertilizing will lead the gardener to record yield results.
- We grow tomatoes in unshaded places - tomatoes love sunlight very much.
- Feeding is carried out during the entire life of the plant, but no more than 4-5 times per season.
- After planting the seedlings, be sure to water the tops for several days until they are established and have a healthy, bright green color.
- We arrange ditches for irrigation in advance in such a way that the entire root system of the plant is washed, but the soil is not washed away.
- Sprinkler irrigation is not recommended by experienced gardeners, although you can often read in reviews: “I planted seedlings and organized such watering on cloudy days or in the evening.”
- When treating with antibacterial or antiparasitic agents, we take into account the resorption time of the drug so that the composition does not end up on the table along with the finished tomatoes.
- Timely staking of bushes will allow you to grow a rich harvest. The plant will receive more sunlight. In addition, fruits lying on the ground are often susceptible to various diseases. Various bacteria live in the soil and happily feast on the harvest.
Tip: before planting Buyan tomato seedlings, shake the bush - the weak ovary will fall off, and you will get a steadily developing plant.
The “fighter” tomato is hard, dense, does not crack, and does not burst due to changes in humidity. Great for eating straight from the garden, making pickles for the winter, freezing, drying, and drying.
The photo shows that the shape of the “fighter” is round, slightly oblong, somewhat reminiscent of a plum. The earliest ones are larger. The ovary appears quickly, abundantly, and continues until the end of the warm period.
Description of fruits:
- The shape of the “brawler” is correct, the boundaries are even;
- the color is bright, rich;
- the taste is sweet with a slight sourness, yellow “fighters” have less acid;
- juicy pulp;
- there are few seeds in 4-5 chambers;
- the weight of one fruit varies from 60-110 g;
- universal purpose.
The only drawback is that it doesn’t stay fresh for long. But tomatoes are grown to be quickly eaten or stored for the winter. Fighter tomatoes look beautiful in a jar because they do not crack. Good for the table fresh for a celebration. “Indispensable” in salads, soups, and slices.
Agrotechnical works
The characteristics and description of the variety will not be complete without considering the features of agrotechnical work. Tomatoes of the Fighter variety are grown using seedlings. Care is very simple, as the plant easily adapts to almost any weather conditions. The agricultural technology for growing this variety is not much different from growing other varieties of standard determinate tomatoes.
Growing seedlings
It is best to sow seeds for seedlings in March. The seedlings are transplanted into beds at the age of 50-55 days. To obtain healthy seedlings, the seeds should first be soaked first in a saline solution and then in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. For growing, it is better to use soil consisting of the following components:
- compost;
- leaf turf soil;
- sand;
- peat;
- ash.
On a note!
To remove microbes and bacteria from the soil, you should spill the soil with a solution of potassium permanganate, boiling water, or bake it in the oven for about 20 minutes.
When sowing, maintain a distance of about 2 cm between the seeds and plant them to a depth of 1.5-2 cm.
Before sprouting, the containers are covered with glass or film and transferred to a warm place. Seedlings dive after the appearance of two true leaves. It is very convenient to take peat pots, as they are easy to move to a permanent place. 2 weeks before transplanting, the seedlings are hardened off, regularly transferred to fresh air. Seedlings are placed in beds with a density of 6-7 bushes per square.
Features of care
Like any plant, Buyan tomatoes require careful and attentive treatment. To grow a good harvest, you should follow simple rules:
- weeding and loosening of the soil is carried out regularly;
- it is important to combine periods of watering, fluffing and drying the soil;
- after transplanting seedlings, abundant daily watering is important, which is not stopped until the foliage turns bright green;
- tomatoes love sunlight very much;
- To obtain a rich harvest, regular feeding is important (4-5 times per season);
- watering is carried out so that the entire root system is washed, and the soil is not washed away (for this purpose, neat holes are made near the trunk);
- antibacterial and antiparasitic drugs are used taking into account their resorption time - the drug should not be present in the leaves and trunk when vegetables begin to form;
- for better ovary, the bushes should be shaken off during the flowering period;
- When harvesting, experienced gardeners recommend leaving 1 ripe fruit, which will help the rest ripen more quickly.
On a note!
Despite the fact that tomatoes do not require tying, it is better to secure the most productive bushes to pegs. With a large number of fruits, the plants may fall to the ground, which will reduce the flow of light to the tomatoes.

The Buyan variety is one of the desired varieties among modern gardeners, especially in areas with difficult climatic conditions. Thanks to its excellent characteristics, the variety is popular, which is proven by numerous positive reviews of the Fighter tomato from users and numerous photos of excellent harvests.
Buyan yellow
In the wake of the great popularity of Fighter, Agrotechnological LLC announced in 2004 the creation of a new variety Buyan yellow. Both varieties have many similar characteristics, but they also have differences. In 2007, the new product was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia for the West Siberian region (Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Kemerovo, Tomsk regions, Altai Territory and the Altai Republic). The tomato is recommended for growing in open ground on private farms. Not a hybrid.
How to care for tomatoes
The Buyan variety is undemanding in care.
Feeding and watering
The first fertilizing is applied 10 days after planting the seedlings with mineral fertilizers containing nitrogen and calcium.
During the period when tomato fruits appear, potassium fertilizers are used. You can use organic matter (rotted manure and chicken droppings). Watering should be done with warm and settled water in the morning or evening.
Tomato bushes "Buyan" reach no more than 50 cm, form strong bushes that do not need staking.
Loosening the soil
To increase productivity, it is recommended to loosen the soil to improve air exchange. During loosening, you should remove weeds that prevent tomatoes from developing and draw nutrients from the soil. The soil is loosened after watering or rains, while hilling the bush.
You can do without loosening, and mulch the ground around the tomato bush with straw or peat. This process will retain moisture in the soil, protect the plant from drying out and prevent the appearance of weeds.
Growing
This variety is sown in March. The seeds need to be placed in the soil to a depth of about 2 cm. It is very easy to do this in this way: seeds are sown on compacted soil, and a thin layer of soil mixed with peat is sprinkled on top. You can water the seedlings through a sieve or with a spray bottle. The boxes are covered with film and stored in a warm place. When the tomatoes germinate, the film is removed and the seedlings are placed in a place with good sunlight.
Picking should begin after the appearance of 1–2 full leaves. It is advisable to feed the sprouts at least 2-3 times before planting. We begin to harden when there is a week left before planting. After the frosts have ended, we begin to plant in the ground. The ideal density per 1m2 would be approximately 8–9 bushes.
Don't forget about feeding and loosening. Before flowering begins, it is recommended to feed tomatoes with mineral fertilizers. And after the first fruits appear, the plant needs potassium.
Diseases and pests
Tomatoes of the Buyan variety are quite resistant to many diseases.
But this variety may be susceptible to the following diseases:
- Late blight. The prerequisite for the appearance of this disease is increased air humidity due to heavy and frequent rains, as well as temperature fluctuations. Fruits and leaves are affected - they acquire a brownish color. Preparations containing copper help against late blight.
- Gray rot. Appears as dark brown spots on fruits. The cause is often a lack of calcium, as well as moisture due to poor watering. For this problem, it is recommended to treat with calcium nitrate.
For pests such as whiteflies, slugs, mole crickets, spider mites and others, appropriate chemicals or folk remedies should be used. It is better to prevent any problems than to treat them later.
Therefore, it is very important to promptly apply preventive measures against the emergence of diseases and pests:
- carry out weeding from weeds and weeds;
- mulch and loosen the soil, hill up each bush;
- water in a timely manner with warm water in the morning or evening;
- apply natural and mineral fertilizers within normal limits to strengthen the tomato;
- tops, stems and unsuitable fruits should be destroyed;
- the ground must be dug up, as it contains pest larvae;
- disinfect the soil before planting;
- observe crop rotation.
Harvest and storage
From 1 m2 they harvest 25 kg, from 1 plant the yield is 4-5 kg. The fruits have an average weight of 90-150 g. Tomatoes are used for fresh cuts and salads, rolled whole in jars, and homemade preparations: pastes, juice, ketchups.
Buyan is planted through seedlings. Bushes that have reached 50-55 days from germination are transplanted into beds. The soil is fed in advance with organic matter and mineral fertilizers. Caring for a tomato is simple, its main points:
- Watering is infrequent - 2 times a week at the root with warm water. 1 bush needs 3 liters;
- loosening and removing weeds;
- mulching with sawdust, leaf litter, straw.
Plants are fed at the flowering stage, ovary formation and when pouring tomatoes.
Due to their short stature, you don’t have to tie the tomatoes to a trellis, pin them, or shape them.
The shelf life of the fruit is 1-1.5 weeks in cool, dark rooms.
The fruits of the crop begin to be harvested approximately 3 months after planting the seeds. Usually this is the end of July or the first half of August. From one square meter you can get 8–10 kg of tomatoes. Fresh tomatoes do not last long. The shelf life of ripened tomatoes is no more than 4-5 days before eating. But this variety is perfect for canning, which will allow you to enjoy tomato juice, ketchup, pickled and salted tomatoes throughout the winter.
The Buyan tomato variety is unpretentious and does not require special care; it tolerates cold weather well. It is well suited for growing in greenhouses and garden beds. Its fruits have excellent taste, are suitable for salads and any preservation, and for whole pickling.
Despite the fast ripening time, “Buyan” is distinguished by its high yield. From 1 sq.m of bed you can collect up to 25 kg of fruit. Within a month after harvesting, the harvest must be consumed or processed, otherwise the tomatoes lose their marketable appearance.
"Buyan" is designed specifically for greenhouse cultivation in regions with a cool climate: the Urals, Siberia, the North. In the central and southern regions it can be cultivated in open ground.
Features of the variety
Features of this variety:
- the absence of side shoots, which simplifies the gardener’s work when forming bushes;
- the ovary is abundant and almost all bears fruit during the life of the plant;
- inflorescences are formed every two leaves;
- each bush, with proper care, gives excellent yield (up to 8 kg of tomatoes);
- small-sized fruits are yellow and red;
- have an oblong shape in the form of a medieval helmet;
- there is little pulp, the fruit contains up to five seeds.
Quite high predictability in development only adds to the popularity of this variety. There is no need to form bushes. Feedback from gardeners suggests that it is possible to predict yields by planning the time of fruit processing. Many were faced with time pressure when processing the crop. By examining the description of the variety, one can judge the high precocity of the product, which makes it possible to obtain ready-made fruits already at the end of one hundred days after germination of the seeds.

Housewives note: this variety is excellent for canning. The durable shell and small size make the Fighter a leader in this field.
Healthy tomatoes do not spread during heat treatment and contain virtually no bacteria that can cause cloudiness or explosion in the finished jar. They are stored in the refrigerator for a long time and have a pleasant, aesthetic appearance on the table.
Advantages and disadvantages
The Buyan tomato variety has the following advantages:
- ease of cultivation and care;
- high yield rates;
- high resistance to drought, frost and temperature changes;
- low standard bushes that do not require tying or pinching;
- friendly and early maturation;
- resistance to many diseases, including tobacco mosaic.
The only drawback of this variety of tomatoes is that the vegetables are not stored for a long period. But this is not critical, since there are modern methods that will help preserve tasty vegetables, even with a very large harvest.
Pros:
- productivity;
- amicable maturation;
- early ripeness;
- universal application;
- ease of cultivation;
- resistance to tobacco mosaic.
Minuses:
