Alsou tomatoes, photos and characteristics of the variety, cultivation and care, reviews from those who grew

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Alsou variety tomatoes have the following advantages:

  • wonderful taste;
  • high yield rates;
  • ability to ripen;
  • it is possible to grow both in open ground and in a greenhouse;
  • good commercial quality;
  • withstand transportation;
  • long shelf life;
  • ease of care;
  • good immunity to most diseases;
  • perfectly tolerates dry weather and cold snaps;
  • mid-early ripening makes it possible to obtain ripe fruits at the end of June;
  • plants can be grown without necessarily forming a bush in an open garden bed;
  • short growing season - all fruits will ripen before late blight appears;

The disadvantages of the Alsou variety include:

  • very weak and thin stems that need to be tied up;
  • need stepsoning;
  • due to the thin skin of the fruit, careful handling during transportation is necessary;
  • You cannot use tomatoes for whole-fruit canning.

Description of the variety

The Alsou tomato is attractive for its large fruit combined with a convenient height of the bush - not too high, but not too low. With minimal maintenance, excellent performance is achieved.

Productivity

In this mid-early variety, the first fruit cluster appears in the axil of the 8-9 leaf (that is, quite quickly). Then the ovaries go through each leaf, less often through two. When grown in greenhouse conditions, a diligent owner will receive up to ten kilograms of standard tomatoes from one square meter. An outdoor garden bed can produce 6-7 kg from a similar area.

IMPORTANT!

The declared yield is achieved only with good care and timely removal of stepsons.

Advantages and disadvantages

Detailed characteristics and descriptions of the Alsou variety do not reveal any significant shortcomings in this tomato.

Valuable signs

Fruit

  1. Large tomatoes begin to turn red in the mid-early period, when the bushes reach the age of 105-110 days.
  2. The maximum size of tomatoes is 750-800 g, the average weight for all harvests is also very respectable - 400 g. There are practically no small fruits observed.
  3. An important feature of the Alsou variety is that most tomatoes are smooth and beautiful; the yield of marketable fruits is up to 90%, which is rare for large-fruited forms.
  4. Two types of tomatoes are formed on the bushes - kidney-shaped and round. The ribbing is weakly expressed.
  5. The skin is shiny, smooth, fiery scarlet in color.
  6. The density of the skin and pulp is average. Keeping quality when ripe is good for a fleshy, large-fruited variety.
  7. The taste is very high.
  8. Alsou variety is primarily a salad variety. You can make ketchup, lecho, juice from it.

ON A NOTE!

Alsou tomatoes are great for market sales.

Features of development

  1. Plants are determinate, but not too short. Self-limitation in height occurs when a height reaches 0.7-0.8 m.
  2. The foliage is moderate, the greenery is not too dense.
  3. The Alsou variety can be cultivated in open ground, greenhouses and any greenhouses.
  4. This tomato copes well with the vagaries of climate, demonstrating excellent ovary in a wide weather range, in different regions.

"Disadvantages" of the variety

  1. Tomatoes are not suitable for whole-fruit canning.
  2. Ripe fruits must be handled and transported very carefully so as not to be crushed. They are not intended for long-term storage.
  3. The Alsou variety needs regular attention and care; it is not suitable for completely “lazy” and busy gardeners.

YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS!

Alsou bushes require protection from fungal infections (late blight, cladosporiosis, etc.).

Productivity

By following the correct agricultural cultivation techniques, you can get 7-9 kg of fruits per 1 sq. m. meters. Provided that 3-4 bushes are planted per square meter.

The ripening period from ovary to fully ripe tomato is 28–40 days. Tomato growth ends three months after the first shoots appear. During the first month of fruiting on the bushes, up to 80% of the entire crop ripens.

Farmer reviews

Despite the shortcomings, reviews from farmers who have already grown the Alsou tomato in their gardens are generally positive.
Some note that the fruits may come out slightly watery if the specified agricultural technology requirements are not followed. This does not affect the taste of the fruit and the yield, so it is difficult to call it a disadvantage.

Subject to agrotechnical rules, the Alsou tomato will please even the most picky gardeners with a harvest.

Delicious, beautiful fruits will provide pleasure throughout the season.

Features of cultivation and care

To obtain seedlings, seeds are sown in early March. Approximately 45-55 days before transfer to a permanent place of growth.

The best soil option for growing seedlings is a mixture of compost, rotted peat and sand. You can also purchase a ready-made mixture for seedlings. The soil should not be waterlogged or look like dirt. Irrigation water should pass through the soil very quickly and should not stagnate.

Seeds are planted to a depth of no deeper than 1 cm. To achieve high-quality and fast seedlings, it is necessary to place containers with plantings in a warm (+24 +28 degrees) and dark place.

When the seeds begin to germinate (approximately 7-10 days after planting), the containers with the plantings are moved to a bright place and the air temperature is lowered to +15 during the day and at night to +13. Thanks to this, the seedlings will not stretch, although the Alsou tomato variety is quite compact in seedlings, like other determinate varieties.

It is necessary to water the seedlings only after the top layer of soil has dried. Plants dive in the phase of formation of the second true leaf.

Transplantation into open ground

The optimal time for planting seedlings in a permanent place:

  • in greenhouses - when the seedlings are 45 days old from the start of seed germination (approximately at the end of May);
  • in an open garden - in early June, when there is no threat of night frosts.

Large-fruited tomatoes grow and bear fruit well if they are planted in neutral soil.

Fast and early ripening of large-fruited tomatoes requires well-fertilized soil. For every sq. meter of tomato beds contribute:

  • compost (1 bucket)
  • wood ash (1.5 cups)
  • superphosphate (1 tablespoon).

The frequency of planting seedlings is no more than 3 plants per 1 sq. meter in a greenhouse. In open ground, it is recommended to plant no more than 4 plants per 1 square meter. meter. After planting and watering the plants, it is necessary to mulch well the tree trunk circle and the space between the bushes.

Care

  • tomato bushes are tied to a support, since the stem of the plants is very weak;
  • the plant is formed into 2-3 stems;
  • it is necessary to carry out regular stepsoning;
  • plants are fed every two weeks with mineral fertilizers;
  • water the plants regularly - once a week in cloudy weather, and once every three to four days in high temperatures;
  • If there is a risk of infection with fungal diseases, it is necessary to treat plants with biological products or fungicides for prevention.

Further care for the Alsou tomato variety

It is not difficult to care for tomato bushes of this variety. The main agricultural activities are described below.

Irrigation regime

Despite the high resistance of tomatoes of this variety to periods of drought, it is still better to water regularly. In greenhouse conditions, Alsou tomato bushes are watered once every 6-8 days, and in garden beds - once every 3-4 days. The main thing is to water strictly at the roots so that drops of moisture do not fall on the foliage of the plants.

Loosening and weeding

The soil in the root zone of the bushes should be loosened after watering and rain to remove dry crust on the soil surface, which prevents oxygen and moisture from penetrating to the roots.

VEGETABLES:
Zucchini squash Black beauty Cabbage Prestige Potatoes Gypsy
Simultaneously with loosening, weeds are removed, which interfere with the normal development of cultivated plants and take a large amount of nutrients from the soil.

The bushes also require regular pinching and gartering of shoots. It is recommended to form the Alsou variety into no more than 3 shoots.

Feeding and fertilizer

To obtain a good harvest, you should regularly add organic matter and mineral fertilizers to the soil, which must be alternated. The fertilizing interval is at least 2 weeks.

Reviews from gardeners who planted the variety

Cherry, Baranavichy

I grew the Alsou variety in 2021 in a greenhouse. The bushes grew to about 1.5 m. The plants were frail, the trunks were thin, the foliage was drooping. It led into one trunk, 3 brushes managed to be tied on the bushes. The tomatoes were not very large - about 250-400 grams. The tomatoes were juicy and tasty, but not outstanding.

Nadine, Volgograd

I grew Alsou last year for the first time in open ground. The bushes were no higher than 0.8 m. I removed all the stepsons up to the first brush, then did nothing further. There were a lot of tomatoes. The first fruits were larger, 600 grams or more, and the subsequent ones were a little smaller. The bushes were not very weak, perhaps because they were low. I really liked the taste, there is only sugary pulp inside. They ripened together, quite early. I will definitely grow it.

Meri, Western Siberia

Growing Alsou in 2021. The seedlings were weak, the stems were thin, but then they showed themselves in all their glory. Grew in the garden under temporary film cover. The height of the bushes was approximately 1 meter. The variety is productive, large-fruited and the tomatoes taste excellent. This year I planted it in a greenhouse, I’ll see how it performs there.

Taleks

The bushes that grew in my garden are not very large, weak. There were no large tomatoes, but the taste was amazing. I never thought that something like this could happen in our garden in the north of the Leningrad region. The tomatoes were sweet, as if sprinkled with sugar. But when they were already ripened at home, they didn’t really stand out in terms of taste.

Tomato Alsou, plant description, photo

The Alsou tomato is the result of joint work by Novosibirsk breeders, which was carried out in 2007.

A year after its creation, the tomato was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements and allowed to be planted in all regions of the country.

The characteristic features of this plant include:

  • A large number of stepsons that grow from the axils of the lower leaves and need to be systematically removed. This helps minimize unnecessary plant energy waste;
  • The speed of formation and development of inflorescences, which applies to both inflorescences on the main and lateral shoots;
  • Growth height in open soil is limited to 80 cm; with greenhouse film covering it can increase to 120 cm;
  • Tomato foliage is slightly corrugated, rich green in color with edges;
  • The shoots are not thick enough and weak, prone to lodging and need additional garter;
  • Early ripeness - on average, from the first shoots to full ripening can take from 105 to 110 days;
  • They retain the ability to form an ovary even in unfavorable weather conditions, which is especially important for areas with a variable climate and constant temperature fluctuations;
  • Flowers bloom on the fiftieth day after germination. The buds are spike-shaped and collected in clusters;
  • It is a representative of the determinant type with limited growth height due to the formation of a fruit ovary at the end of the main shoot.

Thanks to the painstaking work of breeders, Alsou is distinguished by its durability and early maturity. Grows well both in open ground and under greenhouse cover.
