Description and characteristics of the variety
The Scheherazade tomato bush type is semi-determinant; in a greenhouse the growth is approximately 1.5 m, and without shelter - a meter. The leaves are covered with fluff, giving them a bluish tint; they densely cover the spreading bush. The plant produces many inflorescences, but the cluster usually contains no more than three fruits. They ripen 110-115 days after germination. The average weight of tomatoes is 100-200 g, but if you follow some rules, you can get 300 g copies. The color is orangish-red, the shape is oval. The skin is also covered with fluff. The pulp is aromatic, juicy and meaty, with excellent taste.
My 'Scheherazade' is a tomato beauty and a productive tomato...
This tomato has already been written about, but now, looking through summer photographs, I remembered it.
And I thought about how often we unfairly stigmatize a variety by planting it only once and not getting the expected result. That’s why I wanted to write and tell him: “Sorry for the mistrust...”
'Scheherazade' is a beauty and a clever girl. That year I planted my 'Scheherazade' as seedlings. It grows strong, fluffy... I decided to find out more about this variety on the Internet and was upset because many people did not like the variety, they wrote that it was not productive... So I planted only 1 thing in the ground, and gave away the rest...
But I planted the very first one in the greenhouse, followed by the rest of the fluffies: 'Yellow Target', 'Sersky Potato' and 'Elberta peach', one plant each, for testing. Not a lot... I grew them in two trunks until September, and then as they please...
I didn’t pay much attention, because I wasn’t expecting any surprises, but in vain... “Scheherazade” decided to prove that she was a beauty, she produced a lot of delicious fruits, even until the cold weather. (Before leaving, I collected her tomatoes in a separate box, and they all ripened in the city on the balcony.)
But those who wrote that it was not productive were also right, because for everyone to whom I gave extra seedlings, they “didn’t work.” Moreover, the closest neighbor’s had it completely... But it’s her own fault: she didn’t plant her stepson in time, she planted it in the OG, so she didn’t have time... (In August, late blight in the OG harvests everything from everyone.)
But my neighbor and I had enough of my beauty... For grilled chicken, a plate with my fluffies was just right!!! (It’s nice to remember... We ate the whole plate, went to the greenhouse and ran for more, we didn’t want anyone else...)
'Scheherazade' across All summer I was happy with tomatoes... So I felt ashamed of my distrust and wanted to say that it’s not the variety, but whether it’s good for you or not.
Now I’ll tell you a little about the variety itself. The bush is tall (in my greenhouse), with light pubescent foliage. Fruits are 200-400 g, red, pubescent, sweet. (In the OG my neighbor did not grow above 50 cm.)
Although the characteristics of this variety say: “The tomato variety 'Scheherazade' is recommended for cultivation in greenhouse conditions and in open ground,” but in the OG it is clearly not planted in the Moscow region...
Tomato 'Scheherazade' is mid-season and bears fruit for a long time (for me until the cold weather). The plant is spreading, the leaves are velvety, emerald green with a blue smoky tint.
Blooms profusely and forms ovaries well. I planted it for seedlings on March 8, and in the greenhouse in early May. I did not dig up the soil before planting, because after the autumn sowing of mustard it was “downy”.
I added a handful of ash, superphosphate and several long-acting AVA fertilizer granules to the hole. She again sowed the ground with mustard, and when it grew a little, she chopped it with a shovel and sprinkled it with cut grass. In the summer I sprayed it with Fitosporin. I watered it only until the red fruits appeared, because I believe that the less water during this period, the sweeter the tomatoes. I formed it into 2 stems, and in September the tomato grew as desired. But this year I will definitely pinch off the tops of all the tomatoes in August, otherwise in the fall it’s not a greenhouse, but a jungle. (Although they promised in the description that it would finish itself.) I just didn’t wait for it, I had to leave, but it still had great potential... They write that the yield is average: 1.5-2 kg per 1 sq. m. m, I picked a lot of fruits before the cold weather, but did not weigh them.
The tomatoes did not suffer from any disease and bore fruit until frost. The plant does not tolerate high temperatures well and may stop bearing fruit in extreme heat. And I had 'Scheherazade' growing near the door of the greenhouse, blown by the breeze. This is probably why the yield pleased me...
Almost round The shape of the fruit is oval, but there are also almost round fruits, weighing from 100 to 400 grams, but there were no very small tomatoes. The skin is dense, slightly pubescent, like a peach. But it doesn’t interfere with eating these tomatoes. The pulp is thick, fleshy and juicy, with a pleasant tomato aroma and taste.
'Scheherazade' elongated Tomatoes are universal in use, but I did not can them, since they are too large for preparations, and they were in great demand among neighbors and relatives. They fit well and are stable during transportation. Everything on the balcony ripened, not a single one was thrown away.
Although they write that 'Scheherazade' cannot boast of high yields and unpretentiousness (which is not always the case), fluffy peach tomatoes will delight the eye all summer, enchanting with their extraordinary beauty and mysterious attractiveness.
Variety Scheherazade
It is not for nothing that this culture has such a proud name, because it enchants with its fluffy dark green foliage.
As a rule, the choice of this variety is due to its attractive beauty. This variety has the following characteristics: mid-season, semi-determinate and large-fruited. The taste is very good, the taste is delicate. Despite the large size of the fruits, they are characterized by excellent transportability and extremely high resistance to the most common diseases of nightshades. The variety is classified as productive.
Farmer reviews
Reviews from gardeners about Scheherazade are contradictory . Almost everyone likes unusual fruits, but many are not satisfied with the low yield of this variety.
Zinaida, Tver : “Very good variety! Funny fluffies have grown up, just like in the photo! Not very productive, but there were no problems with sores. It led into two stems.”
Maria, Voronezh : “It looks original, but the harvest was disappointing. There are much more productive varieties that ripen faster. I definitely won’t plant next year.”
Anton, Rostov : “The tomatoes are delicious and look unusual. Guests came to the dacha and were very surprised. In the greenhouse it bears fruit longer than other varieties.”
Growing seedlings
The Scheherazade tomato in our country can only be grown using seedlings . Seeds are sown 55-60 days before the plants are supposed to be planted in the ground. Seedlings begin to grow in March. Before sowing seeds, experienced gardeners advise checking the lunar calendar.
Seed treatment
Before sowing, the seeds must be prepared by treating them with a number of products . This increases their resistance to temperature changes and reduces the risk of plant infection:
- The seeds are soaked in a saline solution (1 teaspoon of salt per 1 liter of water). All floating specimens are thrown away, and those that have sunk to the bottom are used.
- Planting material is soaked in hydrogen peroxide or a light pink solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour. Then it is washed under running water.
- The seeds are treated with a growth stimulator. They are soaked according to the instructions in solutions such as Epin, Sodium Humate, etc.
This is interesting. Many gardeners prefer to germinate seeds before planting. To do this, planting material is wrapped in gauze moistened with a growth stimulator or water and placed in a warm place.
Selection of containers and soil
To grow seedlings, purchase universal soil or special soil for tomatoes . Prepare the soil mixture yourself. To do this, mix two parts of peat, one part of humus (compost), one part of earth, 0.5 parts of sand. The soil is taken from beds where nightshades (potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, eggplants) did not grow in the previous season.

Tomato “Mikado”, beloved by summer residents
Exotic taste and amazing view - “Irish Liquor”
Hybrid tomato "Ivan da Marya"
To reduce the acidity of peat, add 1 cup of ash or 3-4 tbsp to a bucket of the resulting substrate. l. dolomite flour. Urea (10 g), superphosphate (30-40 g) and potassium fertilizer (10-15 g) are also added to the mixture. Sometimes these components are replaced with a complex fertilizer containing nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus.
The soil must be disinfected . This is done in one of the following ways:
- pour over with a dark pink solution of potassium permanganate;
- pour boiling water over;
- baked in the oven.
For sowing, use pots, cups or boxes measuring 10x10 cm when sowing a small amount of seeds. If you plan to plant several beds of such tomatoes, then it is convenient to use special trays or boxes.
Scheherazade is a rare variety that is not easy to buy . Typically, gardeners plant only a few bushes of this tomato. In this case, it is more convenient to use peat tablets.
Containers are also disinfected. They are soaked for half an hour in a solution of potassium permanganate.
Sowing seeds
The substrate is poured into boxes, compacted and watered with a growth stimulator.
In each container, make two grooves 1 cm deep, into which the seeds are placed at a distance of 2 cm and sprinkled with soil. Then the containers are covered with transparent film or glass and placed in a warm place (24-25 ° C). Once a day, open the containers for 10-15 minutes to ventilate.
When the first shoots appear, the glass (film) is removed.
If seedlings are planted in peat tablets, the scheme will be different:
- The tablets are soaked in boiling water, placed in a deep container with the hole facing down;
- when all the water is absorbed, pour in a new portion of boiling water;
- after the workpieces swell and increase in size, they are taken out and turned over with the hole facing up;
- One seed is placed in each preparation, deepening it by 1 cm;
- The tablets are placed in one deep container and covered with film.
Seedling care
It is important to properly care for tomato seedlings . Then it will turn out strong and will easily take root after picking in a permanent place:
- Water the seedlings as the top layer of soil dries. It is important to ensure that the liquid does not fall on the above-ground part of the plants. The water should be warm.
- Seven days after the appearance of the first shoots, the ambient temperature is reduced: 16-18 °C during the day, 13-15 °C at night. This temperature regime is maintained for seven days. The plants are then brought into a room at room temperature. This will prevent the seedlings from pulling out prematurely.
- Tomato seedlings need 16 hours of daylight. In case of insufficient lighting, the seedlings are additionally illuminated with fluorescent or special phytolamps for seedlings.
- If the seeds were sown in a common box, then the tomatoes are planted in individual containers after two true leaves appear. Seeds planted in peat pots do not need picking.
- Before planting, seedlings are hardened off. To do this, the containers are taken out onto the open balcony for ten days. The air temperature should not be lower than 12 °C.
Agricultural technology
Tomato variety "Scheherazade" is recommended for growing in greenhouse conditions and in open ground.
- Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out from mid-March to early April.
- At the age of 50-60 days, the sprouts are planted in greenhouses and greenhouses, in open ground only after the threat of frost has passed.
- Growing tomatoes in greenhouse conditions must be accompanied by temperature control. The ideal temperature for normal development and fruiting is + 24-25 degrees.
- During the growth process, the plant needs pinching. Bushes can be formed into either one stem or 2-3 stems. But after studying the description of the variety and reviews, it becomes clear that forming it into one stem will allow you to get larger fruits.
- The stem, although thick, has a tendency to break off, so the bushes need to be tied up.
- Plants need regular watering, loosening the soil and fertilizing with mineral and organic fertilizers.
