Description of the variety, characteristics

Determinate variety, mid-early ripening, intended for open ground. Despite the fact that the bush does not grow higher than 70 cm, it needs a garter. Removing stepsons up to the first cluster will increase the yield of the bush.

The largest harvest is formed on a plant formed in 2-3 shoots. The small leaves are dark green and provide the entire crop with the necessary nutrition.

The elongated fruits, up to 15 cm in size, are smooth and even, collected in graceful clusters. The first fruits can be harvested 100-120 days after sowing.

The weight of one pink-red tomato can reach 100g. They are meaty and have good flavor. Two to three chambered fruits contain 5-6% dry matter.

Suitable for fresh use, canning, good after cooking - in sauces and main dishes. They can be salted or dried. With the best care, you can collect no more than 8 kg of ripe fruits from the bush.

Note! Lack of watering will reduce the number of fruits by half.

Full review of the Supermodel tomato

The Supermodel tomato is considered a relatively new variety, which was bred in the 12th year of this century. Intended for cultivation in all regions of Russia, except for the Northern part (Far East, Siberia). These are low-growing tomatoes, the bush of which is distinguished by its grace, and the fruits have an unsurpassed taste.

General characteristics of the variety

Supermodel is a mid-early determinate variety that is usually grown in open ground. Requires gartering and removal of stepsons, which increases yield. The largest number of tomatoes are formed on a plant that has no more than 3 shoots.

The variety is used for various purposes - fresh consumption, canning, drying, pickling. Tomatoes make delicious sauces.

Appearance of bushes:

  • minimum height - 60 cm, maximum - 80;
  • leaf size is small;
  • color – dark green;
  • bush - compact standard.

Fruit characteristics:

  • tomato color – pink-red;
  • the shape is elongated;
  • the pulp is of medium density, fleshy;
  • peel – thin, even and smooth;
  • there are no more than 3 seed nests;
  • taste qualities – sweet and sour;
  • amount of dry substances – no more than 6%;
  • the tomato grows up to 15 cm in length;
  • weight ranges from 100 to 120 grams.

Ripening time:

  • the shortest ripening period after planting is 100 days;
  • maximum period is 120 days.

Productivity:

  • per 1 sq. m accounts for up to 8 kg of fruit;
  • If the care rules are not followed, the yield is reduced to 5 kg.

The area of growth affects the yield - the most tomatoes can be harvested in the South and in the middle zone. The main conditions for growing are sufficient watering and sunlight.

Features of planting, growing and care

Requirements:

  • the soil should be sandy and loamy;
  • the soil is enriched with humus;
  • earth – neutral;
  • wind protection is required;
  • when planting, the soil should be well heated;
  • air humidity should not exceed 60%;
  • temperature range – from 20 to 25 degrees.

Time for sowing:

  • for seedlings in containers - February 26 - March 10;
  • when sowing in the ground, but under film - April 11 - May 1;
  • for late planting in the garden - May 1-5.

These dates are indicated for seedless planting, that is, sowing seeds. With early planting, the harvest can be harvested in the first half of August, with late planting - at the end of the same month.

How to plant seeds for seedlings?

Preparation of seed material begins approximately 2 months before transferring the bushes to open ground. Seeds require special processing, which eliminates the incidence of disease. To do this, they are placed in a manganese solution for 15-20 minutes. Next, to plant tomatoes for seedlings, you need to adhere to the following rules:

  • the soil should be moist and slightly compacted;
  • distance between seed material – maximum 4 cm;
  • Each seed must be carefully pressed;
  • the temperature before the formation of sprouts should not be lower than 25 degrees;
  • after emergence of seedlings, the temperature decreases (20-22 degrees);
  • Picking seedlings into separate containers is carried out after 3 leaves are formed on the bush.

How to plant seedlings and care rules

Seedlings are transplanted only when there is no risk of frost, since the plant is considered heat-loving. Rules:

  • The seedlings should have a height of 28-30 cm and be up to 60 days old.
  • The number of formed leaves is from 6 to 8.
  • The leaf part should be saturated with a green tint. There should be no stains, damage or wrinkles on it and the stems.
  • Before transplanting, the roots are carefully inspected (deformations are excluded).
  • Planting in the ground is carried out in rows or in a checkerboard pattern.
  • The holes are dug at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other.
  • Inter-row width – 50 cm.

In greenhouse conditions , frequent ventilation is required, but so that the plants do not get blown, since they do not like wind. Optimal temperature and humidity levels must be maintained.

On open ground in dry, hot weather, the Supermodel must be moisturized every day. If the summer is excessively rainy, then to eliminate the risk of disease, it is necessary to make grooves from each hole that will drain water.

Watering rules:

  • watering is carried out between the rows under the horse system;
  • moistening should be carried out to a depth of 35-40 cm.

If the rows next to the tomatoes are mulched, then loosening may not be necessary. It is enough to pull through the weeds. Irrigation features change - since the soil will not crack, less water will be needed.

Feeding:

  1. The first time feeding seedlings is done a couple of weeks after transplanting to a permanent place. Feeding with potassium and phosphorus is used.
  2. Secondary feeding is carried out after a month. Complex fertilizers are applied. For example, Nitrophoska and the like.
  3. Next time (in another month) you need to add potassium and nitrogen.

Diseases and pests

Control of pests and diseases that are dangerous for the Supermodel:

  • Fomoz disease. Treatment is carried out using Hom. Along with this, it is important to remove and destroy affected tomatoes. And also reduce the amount of watering and application of nitrogen fertilizers.
  • For dry spotting, Tattoo, Consento, Antrakol are used.
  • The variety is actively attacked by Colorado potato beetles. Prestige, Apache, Aktara, Taboo, Regent, Corado, Lightning, Commander are used against them.

It is important to carry out preventive measures, including the following:

  • compliance with crop rotation and irrigation regime requirements;
  • weed removal;
  • trimming the lower leaves;
  • lack of thickening during planting;
  • timely loosening and fertilization;
  • treatment of seedlings before transplantation with Bordeaux solution;
  • adding copper oxychloride;
  • adding ash to the soil.

Harvest and storage

Despite the thinness of the skin, the fruits are quite dense, so they are easy to store. The fruits ripen sequentially, so harvesting takes place over a long period of time. For long-term preservation, it is better to pick tomatoes in a brown state, as they successfully ripen in a couple of weeks in the sun.

Storage requirements:

  1. If there are a small number of tomatoes for storage, the fruits are placed in the basement in a wooden container. It is advisable to sprinkle with sawdust.
  2. If the harvest is significant, then a pile is arranged. The pit should be up to 60 cm deep, 40 cm wide, and the length should be arbitrary. Geotextile material or ordinary straw is laid at the bottom. The layer of tomatoes should not exceed 40 cm. Protective material is again laid on top of the laid fruits and covered with wood shields. The period of such storage is 30 days. During this time, it is necessary to ventilate the pile 4-5 times and sort through the vegetables, getting rid of rotten specimens.

If red ripe fruits are collected for storage, they can be stored in a well-ventilated basement area for up to 2 months. If the tomatoes are picked brown, the shelf life increases significantly.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of the Supermodel variety:

  • presentable presentation;
  • excellent immunity to many diseases and pests;
  • unpretentiousness of planting, growing and care;
  • excellent taste;
  • versatility of use;
  • shelf life;
  • ability to transport.

Flaws:

  • needs a lot of sunlight;
  • relatively low yield;
  • demanding to remove weeds and excess moisture.

Reviews

The Supermodel tomato is not characterized by increased productivity, but is successful due to its unique shape, taste, ease of care and maintenance. It is not planted in the Northern regions, but is excellent for the Center and South. If you follow all the requirements, you can achieve good results in increasing the number of tomatoes on one bush.

Features of cultivation and care

Grow like most tomatoes. Seeds for seedlings are sown 55-60 days before planting in open ground. There are no more than 3-4 plants per 1 m2 of beds.

To get a full harvest, Supermodel tomatoes need a sufficient amount of sunlight!

Bushes that have taken root outdoors are undemanding in care and resistant to brown spot and fruit cracking. They are immune to many diseases, but can be affected by tomato blight.

If diseased fruits appear, you need to remove them immediately and spray the plants with Hom.

Productivity

The productivity of the Supermodel tomato cannot be considered an advantage. If proper care is provided, the yield per 1 m2 is from 7 to 8 kg of fruit. Poor care and non-compliance with the watering regime significantly reduces the yield to 4-5 kg.

Which regions are best to grow in?

Tomato is good to grow in the middle zone and southern regions of the Russian Federation. The main condition is the presence of sufficient sunlight. Ideal regions for cultivation are Altai Territory, Tatarstan, Volga region, Crimea and the Caucasus. Tomato is not recommended to be grown in areas of Siberia and the Far East.

Advantages and disadvantages

Many gardeners have already identified the main pros and cons of this hybrid.

The advantages of a Supermodel include the following qualities:

  • beautiful appearance
  • high taste qualities
  • unpretentiousness and strong immunity
  • tomatoes tolerate transportation and long-term storage well
  • universal use, both fresh and prepared
  • unpretentiousness to the soil.

The obvious disadvantages are:

  • average yield
  • moodiness towards sunlight
  • demanding for watering and timely application of fertilizers.

Reviews:

Anton Sergeevich, pensioner:

I would like to get a harvest with less labor. We planted only 5 Supermodel bushes. And then they realized that they didn’t take enough. We'll jail the supermodel for next season.

Camea2002, Voronezh:

I bought this variety of tomatoes two years ago. I sowed them at home, but the seedlings turned out small and bad, although they grew with other tomatoes, and they all grew up well. But this spring I sowed them again and decided to try growing them again. And I was not mistaken this time.

The tomatoes grew very beautiful and tasty.

This variety turned out to be late. The tomatoes only started to ripen at the end of August, fortunately the weather here was not too bad, it was very warm, so they had time to turn red on the bush.

I read a lot about these tomatoes on the Internet. Many different and contradictory reviews are written about these tomatoes. But I really liked them.

The fruits are elongated, with a sharp nose, pinkish-red in color, their taste is very delicate, with a slight sourness. But I liked it. This taste is very pleasant; the skin of these tomatoes is very tender and thin.

Although I can’t say anything good about the yield. I sown 4 seeds, all four sprouted and grew this year. Somehow I managed to save them; the tomato bushes were strong and good. But the harvest from these four bushes did not make me happy. We only collected one and a half buckets.

Sowing time

Supermodel tomatoes are early tomatoes, so they can be sown at several times, including late sowing, and get well-formed, ripened fruits of milky-waxy maturity. Approximate timing of sowing tomato seeds Supermodel:

  • in boxes for seedlings - from February 25 to March 10;
  • early in the soil under the film - from April 10 to April 30;
  • late into the soil - from May 1 to May 5.

Growing tomatoes through seedlings involves planting them at the age of 60-65 days in open ground around May 10-25. The first fruits can be obtained already in early July. Non-seedling culture involves sowing seeds into the ground at different times. With early sowing, the beginning of fruiting occurs in the first ten days of August, and with late sowing - in the third ten days.

  • watering 1-2 times a week;
  • fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers every two weeks;
  • regular weeding;
  • removal of extra stepsons.

All efforts will more than pay off with a large number of firm, elongated tomatoes, which is the right time to prepare for the future for the winter at the end of summer.
