The Samara tomato variety is loved by many summer residents and gardeners. Its popularity is due to its early ripening, excellent taste and high resistance to tobacco mosaic and other tomato diseases. The fruits of the Samara variety are universal, they are equally tasty fresh and canned, and are great for making salads, sauces and juices.

Description and characteristics of the variety

Samara tomatoes were bred and registered in the State Register of Russia in 1998 in light zone 3 ( Central region, including the Moscow region ). Buying tomato seeds is not difficult.

  • A hybrid, not a variety, as indicated by the F1 mark on the packaging. To plant these tomatoes, you need to buy seed every year, since the seeds in grown tomatoes do not retain varietal qualities.
  • Suitable for growing in greenhouses, greenhouses and in the garden under film.
  • The bush is indeterminate, unlimited in growth. Can grow up to 2-2.2 meters in height.
  • Requires formation. It is best to grow bushes with 1-2 stems, this way you can get the largest harvest.
  • It must be tied to a vertical support or trellis.
  • Early ripening, ripe fruits begin to be picked from the bushes 90-96 days after emergence.
  • The inflorescence is simple, the flowers are located close to each other. The first inflorescence is formed after 8-9 leaves, the rest - above every 3 leaves. Each bunch produces up to 10-12 tomatoes.
  • There are not many leaves, they have the usual shape for tomato bushes, slightly corrugated, dark green in color with a matte coating.
  • Long fruiting, all tomatoes on the bunch are almost identical.
  • Resistant to nightshade diseases such as tobacco mosaic, cladosporiosis and verticillium wilt.
  • Productivity is average. From 1 bush you can harvest 3.5-4 kg of tomatoes, when planting 3 bushes per 1 sq. meter get 12-13 kg from this area.

Care

Let's learn how to care for the Samara hybrid tomato to obtain tasty and abundant harvests.

Loosening

Be sure to loosen the soil in the greenhouse - usually the procedure is carried out on the second day after watering. Tomatoes need permeable soil so that the roots have the opportunity to receive air and moisture in full.

If the tomatoes were initially planted in dense soil, loosening will have to be done more often. And vice versa - light soil makes procedures less frequent.

Hilling

This is also a necessary procedure. For the first time, hilling is carried out 9-11 days after planting on the garden bed. We recommend hilling up after watering, since moist soil activates the growth of new roots.

Watering

Moisturizing procedures must be carried out in a timely manner. Optimal water consumption: 0.8 liters per bush per procedure. Choose the time for watering in the evening or on cloudy days. This is due to the need to protect tomato bushes from sunburn.

Watering is required:

  • during the flowering period of tomatoes, especially at the very beginning;
  • before loosening;
  • after applying dry mineral fertilizers.

Ventilation

Since Samara tomatoes are a greenhouse variety, do not forget about regular ventilation. Humidity accumulates in the greenhouse, and if the doors/windows are not opened, fungus is likely to appear.

Top dressing

Fertilizers are applied several times per season. Both minerals and organic matter should be used.

Trimming

Since this variety is indeterminate, there is no way to do without pruning. The Samara tomato, if its growth is not controlled, will produce shoots that are too long and in large quantities, which will negatively affect the harvest.

Therefore, when pruning, only one or two fruitful shoots are left for each bush. The rest of the shoots are disposed of as soon as the shoot reaches 3-4 cm.

Garter

The shoots of the plant are long, so tying them to a support is mandatory. Try to tie up while the shoots are still small: this way the formation of the bush will follow the right course.

Important: place the garter stakes on the north side of the bushes so that they do not block the sunlight.

Prevention

The variety is highly resistant to all kinds of fungal and viral diseases. But preventive measures should not be canceled: it happens that even resistant varieties get sick under unfavorable conditions.

Of the pests, the Samara variety can be affected by the following species:

  • spider mite;
  • aphids;
  • thrips;
  • Colorado potato beetle.

Pests can be controlled using both chemicals and traditional methods. But remember that folk remedies will only help if the lesion is weak: advanced cases are treated with insecticides.

Cleaning

About three weeks before harvesting, remove all buds and flowering shoots from the bushes. The measure is aimed at stopping the growing season: the plant must now devote all its energy to ripening the fruits. Since the fruiting period in this case is extended, the tomatoes will have time to ripen well.

If you have a long transportation ahead or want to keep the fruits fresh for a longer period, pick the fruits not ripe, but just beginning to turn red.

Fruit characteristics

  • The shape is almost round, slightly flattened near the stalk.
  • The color of unripe tomatoes is light green, changing to bright red as they ripen.
  • The skin is smooth and shiny.
  • The pulp is dense and juicy.
  • The taste is tomato.
  • The average weight of one fruit is 85-100 g.
  • Inside there are 3-4 seed chambers with a sufficient number of seeds.
  • On the th bunch, tomatoes ripen almost simultaneously and retain their appearance well. This makes it possible to pick tomatoes with brushes.
  • Universal use, suitable for fresh consumption and whole-fruit canning.
  • Resistance to long-term transportation.

How to grow seedlings

Planting seeds for seedlings is done in late winter or early spring. To do this, you need to prepare seeds, container, soil and fertilizers.

Seed preparation

The future harvest depends on the quality of the seeds. Since Samara is a hybrid, the seeds are only available in the store. We advise you not to trust seed sellers at the market or just on the street.

Be sure to disinfect the seeds. For this purpose, soaking in a 0.5% solution of baking soda is suitable. First place the seeds in a fabric bag, which is immersed in the solution for 24 hours. The procedure promotes earlier ripening.

Also, do not forget about hardening the material. Leave it in a warm room for 1 day and then place it in the refrigerator overnight. At this time, the main thing is to keep the seeds moist.

Container and soil

Many gardeners prepare the soil for seedlings themselves. To do this, use peat, humus, sawdust, moss or pine needles, as well as wood ash. As a supplement, agroperlite or vermiculite is added. Minerals are necessary for the looseness of the composition and to prevent stagnation of moisture in the soil.
Minerals are sold in the form of granules, easy to use. One of the best options for containers for seedlings is simple plastic cups. They are affordable and easy to use. Plants can be easily removed from them when transplanted into the ground. However, seedlings can also be grown in flower pots, peat tablets or wooden boxes. The main thing is that the container is convenient to use.

Sowing

Before sowing, be sure to wash the container and treat it with hydrogen peroxide. After this, dry thoroughly and fill 1/2 full with prepared soil.

Use a pencil to make small holes and place the seeds in them. Sprinkle soil on top and pat down lightly. Be sure to water the seedlings with warm water.

Growing and care

Place the tomato seedlings in a warm and bright place, for example, on a windowsill. Avoid drafts. The optimal air temperature should be at least 22 degrees. Also follow the watering schedule. Moisten the soil for the first time 10 days after planting. In the future, water the plants every 7 days. Do not allow excess water, this can lead to diseases and poor development of sprouts.

Important! Use growth stimulants, for example, the drug "Epin". Dilute one ampoule in 5 liters of water and spray the seedlings. "Epin" reduces the amount of nitrates in vegetables, increases immunity to fungi and parasites, and increases the yield and quality of tomatoes. The product is environmentally friendly, safe for both plants and people.

Don't forget to fertilize your tomatoes. The seedlings are fed with an ash solution, which perfectly nourishes the seedlings and develops them. The chemical “Kornevin” also has a beneficial effect on tomatoes. Purchase it at any gardening store. "Kornevin" makes the roots strong and powerful.
