The drug "Ephoria" for the Colorado potato beetle

Description of the insecticide Eforia

The insecticide Euphoria has two main components - lambda-cyhalothrin and thiamethoxam. These two substances have intestinal, systemic, contact, and repellent effects. This substance is sold in the form of special solutions in plastic containers. The solutions do not require dilution; they can be used immediately after purchase according to the instructions. You can also find suspensions that are designed for processing potatoes.

The main components of the solution enter the insect’s body through the skin or with food. Then they disrupt calcium metabolism in the muscles, and the insect is paralyzed, as a result of which it dies. The quality of the drug is due not only to the fact that it effectively copes with pests, but also to the fact that insects do not develop an addiction to it.

Composition and dosage form of the drug

"Euphoria" is a drug that releases. This product is produced in the form of a suspension concentrate. It is sold in 5 liter canisters. The substance contains 2 active components that protect crops from pests for a long time. 1 liter of product contains the following active ingredients:

  • 141 grams of thiamethoxam;
  • 106 grams of lambda-cyhalothrin.

Thanks to the presence of two active substances simultaneously, it is possible to avoid the development of resistance in parasites.

Features of the composition

The insecticide "Eforia" is suitable for treating not only small areas, but also large potato and cereal fields. In this case, agricultural aviation is used for spraying. Apply the product when parasites or their larvae are detected. The effect of "Ephoria" on insects lasts five weeks.

If after a while the harmful pests appear again, repeated treatment is allowed. The only exceptions are wheat and all cereal crops, which can be sprayed only once, at the earliest stage of their development.

Cruciferous crops can be sprayed twice, but with an interval of at least a month.

Secondary treatment of legumes is allowed two weeks after the first application.

If “Ephoria” can be safely used in sunny or rainy weather, then on windy days, for obvious reasons, you should refrain from doing so.

Manufacturers of the insecticide "Eforia" recommend treating plants only once. Recycling is a last resort.

Cereal crops can be processed once and immediately after germination.

Cabbage, legumes, tomatoes, strawberries can be sprayed twice, but only during the period of their active growth. “Euphoria” is also used by summer residents for the Colorado potato beetle.

Drug consumption rates

  1. For processing cereal crops, 0.01-0.03 ml per square meter is sufficient. This amount is enough for the drug to act for up to one and a half months.
  2. For processing cabbage, the norm is 0.02-0.03 ml per square meter. The effect lasts 30 days. Secondary spraying is acceptable at intervals of 1 month.
  3. For legumes, the consumption of the drug is 0.02-0.03 ml per square meter. Secondary processing is allowed at intervals of two weeks.

The product can cause the death of bees and water inhabitants. The insecticide "Eforia" is prohibited for use if there is a fish pond or apiary within a radius of five kilometers from the treatment site.

The drug is dangerous to human health, so you need to work with it only in a chemical protective suit, safety glasses and a respirator.

The insecticide Eforia contains two active substances: 14.1% pyrethroid thiamethoxam (141 g/l) and 10.6% neonicotinoid λ-cyhalothrin (106 g/l). Both of them are neurotoxins (nerve poisons) with similar mechanisms of action on objects of elimination.

Chemical formulas of the active ingredients of the insecticide Eforia

Thiamethoxam is the basis of the well-known drug Aktara, and λ-cyhalothrin is part of the insecticide Borey. Both DVs are described separately in acc. articles; the publication on Borea also explains the advantages of the combined use of pyrethroids and neonicotinoids. It is also worth noting the peculiarity of their action in the mixture for this drug.

Unlike many 2-component insecticides, the level of activity and duration of protective action of both Ephoria additives approximately coincide. λ-cyhalothrin is more “responsible” for systemic action and translaminar activity: it penetrates into all plant tissues and lingers in them for a long time. The period of protective action of both DVs in the average summer weather in the Russian Federation is approx.

3 weeks, but λ-cyhalothrin in plant tissues is protected from external influences longer. Therefore, Ephoria with one treatment is effective against several waves of sucking pests (possibly different species). If the crops are affected by more gnawing or stem-dwelling secretive living insects, then either two treatments are needed (which is not acceptable for all target crops), or a single treatment must be carried out before the “pioneers” have multiplied, have eaten their fill and have begun laying eggs en masse.

Euphoria is a concentrated suspension based on:

  • thiamethoxam is an insecticidal substance of systemic, contact and intestinal action that affects the nervous system of insects, which leads to paralysis;
  • Lambda-cyhalothrin is a contact-intestinal insecticide, which, upon penetration into the body of the Colorado potato beetle, has a detrimental effect on its nervous system, resulting in a disturbance of calcium metabolism in the pest’s body, the final result being paralysis of the insect’s muscles.

A certain number of Colorado potato beetles die almost immediately after treatment with this composition. After some time, the same fate befalls the remaining individuals who feasted on the poisoned leaves of the plants.

Euphoria remedy for the Colorado potato beetle
The drug Euphoria is in great demand among consumers, as it has many advantages:

  • High efficiency is ensured by the combination of two powerful insecticidal components; if the poison enters the body of insects, it causes their immediate death;
  • the composition affects both adult individuals and insects in the larval stage;
  • wide spectrum of action - Euphoria poison is effective not only against Colorado potato beetles, but also against other leaf-eating, sucking and secretly living pests;
  • the insecticidal suspension does not respond to temperature changes, so spraying with the solution can be carried out in sunny and cloudy weather;
  • • the poison has a long residual effect, which lasts for 30-40 days;
  • preparative form - a ready-to-use product does not require additional preparation, which makes it easy to use;
  • If you follow the manufacturer's recommendations, the product will not harm human health.

Instructions for use of the insecticide Euphoria

Like any other pest control product, Ephoria must be used correctly. The instructions for use allow you to determine the standards of the drug for certain crops, as well as understand exactly how to use the substance so that it has maximum effectiveness.

  1. Spraying can be done manually or by aircraft.
  2. Treatment is carried out only when there are pests on the crops.
  3. All plants, except cereals, can be re-treated with this product if pests reappear after the end of the period of action.
  4. The effectiveness of the drug does not depend on weather conditions, but during strong winds, the liquid from the sprayer can fly over considerable distances and not get where it is needed. Therefore, any processing is carried out in calm weather.

Drug consumption table

CulturePestsWhen to sprayDrug consumptionNumber of treatments
Wheat, barley, oatsCereal aphids, leechweed, stem flies, bread ground beetles, bread flea beetles, thripsProcessing sprouts if they have insects10-30 ml/m. sq. 1
CabbageAphids, white moths, cutworms, cabbage mothsDuring the growing season, if dangerous insects appear20-40 ml/m. sq. 2
PeasPea aphid, weevil, codling mothSpraying during the growing season if there are dangerous bugs20-40 ml/m. sq. 2

When using a potato suspension, only 4 ml of liquid is taken per 10 liters of water. Working staff consumption is 3 liters per 100 square meters.

By following the recommendations from the table, you can destroy dangerous insects without harming the crops themselves. After use, the Euphoria insecticide is effective for 35-40 days. This eliminates the need for multiple treatments.

Working fluid consumption rates

As noted above, the Ephoria treatment procedure can be carried out in any weather. However, you should still give preference to calm weather. The solution consumption rates directly depend on the crop being sprayed:

  1. Cereals. Cereal crops are treated during germination if pests are found on them (aphids, ground beetles, flies, bedbugs, etc.). The consumption rate of the working solution is 0.01-0.03 ml/m2. The maximum number of treatments is 1. After spraying cereal crops, the active component protects the plant for another 1.5 months.
  2. Cabbage. This crop is susceptible to attack by parasites such as aphids, armyworms, and moths. The plant can be treated at any stage of its growing season. The liquid consumption rate is 0.02-0.03 ml/m2. The maximum number of treatments is 2. The protection period is 1 month.
  3. Peas. Leaves are treated when parasitic infestations appear. Working fluid consumption is 0.02-0.03 ml/m2. The maximum number of treatments is 2. The waiting period is 2 weeks.

The drug Euphoria has a moderate degree of toxicity. It is important to follow safety precautions during use. First of all, you need to take care of protection during processing. The drug is used exclusively in a special suit, with gloves and safety glasses.

If large-scale processing is carried out, a few days before it is necessary to warn beekeepers and beekeepers so that they do not release bees for honey, because the drug is toxic to them. Treatment is prohibited near bodies of water of any type, because the drug can also harm aquatic fauna and flora.

The drug is combined with such growth regulators as “Zircon”, “Epin”, almost any herbicides, fungicides that give an alkaline reaction or contain copper in their composition. It can be used after, before or together with these products.

Reviews of the insecticide Euphoria

The high-quality drug Euphoria is suitable for many crops and copes with a wide variety of pests. It is considered one of the most effective remedies currently known.

  • Valentin Maslov : “I used the insecticide Eforia against aphids on peas last year. The effect is amazing. After just 2 days, all the insects died, and the plant began to grow and turn green again, to my joy. The harvest was good, so the drug did not affect it. This year I’ll try it against the Colorado potato beetle on potatoes, maybe it will work too.”
  • Igor Nezamai: “I have been using the drug Euphoria to spray cabbage for several years now. Helps against any pests. What I don’t like most about the drug is that you need to use protective suits with it. It can really harm a person, so I’m not taking any risks. But given the effectiveness of the drug, it is worth your time.”
  • Anton Pavlov : “We use Eforia suspension for processing potatoes. The product copes with the Colorado potato beetle and aphids, but does not harm the crop itself. The main disadvantage of the product is its toxicity to beneficial insects, but, unfortunately, less dangerous preparations do not completely destroy the Colorado potato beetle. Our beetles did not appear again after the first treatment, but even if this happens, the procedure can be repeated. So the product is good, and I recommend it for garden crops.”

Toxicity

Euphoria belongs to drugs of medium toxicity category.
Therefore, when using it, you must carefully observe all precautions and wear protective equipment that does not allow contact with the drug (special suit, gloves, goggles). The insecticide is dangerous for bees and inhabitants of water bodies.

Therefore, before carrying out the procedure, you need to notify the nearest beekeepers about the event. The permissible flight range for bees to the spraying zone is at least 5-6 km. It is also prohibited to carry out work near fishery reservoirs.

Insecticide Eforia

- a combined insecticide with contact and systemic activity against a wide range of pests at all life stages, from larvae to adults. It is highly effective against pests of grain and vegetable crops.

Mechanism of action: the drug Eforia contains two active ingredients - lambda-cyhalothrin and thiamethoxam. These substances, belonging to two different chemical classes, completely complement each other, providing maximum and, importantly, long-lasting protection against pests in the field, preventing the risk of resistance. The drug quickly penetrates the cuticle of the insect and affects the nervous system, which within a few minutes leads to the cessation of feeding activity, a paralyzing effect and the death of the pest.

  • Lambda-cyhalothrin has a powerful “knockdown effect” on pests, which causes instant paralysis of the pest. Has contact-intestinal activity. Provides rapid action by interacting with sodium channels in membranes. It quickly penetrates the cuticle of the insect and affects the nervous system, which within a few minutes leads to the cessation of feeding activity, a paralyzing effect and subsequently to the complete death of the pest.
  • Thiamethoxam penetrates the plant, remaining in it for up to 3 weeks, protects for a long time from pests that appear after application of the drug, and has a pronounced systemic and translaminar effect. Thiamethoxam systemically affects secretive pests by interacting with nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.

Advantages:

  • The period of protective action is at least 14 days
  • Compatible with other pesticides, however, in each specific case, a preliminary check for the physical compatibility of the mixed components is necessary.
  • It is characterized by high selectivity in relation to cultivated plants.
  • Insects stop feeding 10–20 minutes after treatment; complete death of insects occurs after 2–4 hours.
  • Non-toxic to plants at tested application rates.
  • To avoid the emergence of resistance, it is recommended to alternate the use of the drug together with drugs of other chemical classes.
