Characteristics and description of the tomato variety Turbojet
The Turbojet tomato is the development of domestic breeders who set the goal of creating a high-yielding super-determinate variety with high taste qualities. The name that the new product received reflects its main characteristic - the amazing precocity of the fruit: no more than 75 days pass from the appearance of the first shoots to harvest. In addition, this variety is unpretentious, hardy, and ripe tomatoes have excellent taste and aroma.
The Turbojetny variety forms a low-growing (up to 40 cm) standard-type bush with strong powerful stems and leafy large dark green leaves. The fruits are bright red, round, slightly flattened in shape. The tomatoes are not large, the average weight is about 80 g, the maximum is up to 190 g. The skin of the fruit is smooth, thin, the flesh is fleshy, sugary, with a large number of seeds.
Fruit characteristics
The shape of the fruit is round, slightly flattened, the color is bright red. The fruits ripen almost simultaneously, making harvesting easier. On average, one tomato weighs about 80 grams, but some fruits can grow up to 200 grams; such specimens are found mainly on the lower branches of bushes.
The fruits are distinguished by their beautiful appearance, smooth skin, dense and fleshy pulp. The tomatoes taste pleasant, there is a slight sourness. Inside the fruit there are 6-8 seed chambers and a large number of seeds. The collected fruits are not stored for long.
Pros and cons of the Turbojet tomato variety
Gardeners familiar with Turbojet tomatoes note the following among the main advantages:
- precocity. This characteristic makes it possible to obtain crops in regions with short summers;
- low stature of the bush, thanks to which more plants can be placed in a limited area and an increased harvest can be harvested;
- low maintenance requirements;
- high productivity;
- excellent taste, versatility of fruit use;
- the possibility of cultivation in areas with different climatic conditions;
- immunity to tomato diseases.
The list of disadvantages of the Turbojet variety is not so impressive. Most often, its weakness is the poor keeping quality of the fruit, which limits their cultivation for commercial purposes. Vegetable growers in the southern territories point to the weak foliage of the bush as a disadvantage that makes it difficult to grow the crop in hot summer conditions.
Reviews from gardeners who planted
Despite the novelty of the variety, there are already many who have tried to grow it in their summer cottage. Gardeners unanimously praise the advantages of a turbojet.
Marina, Klin, Moscow region.
The variety is beyond praise! It looks like a small tree, completely covered with tomatoes. I got a lot of seedlings and shared them with friends. Everyone was happy. Easy to grow and without any hassles. Planted, watered, wait for the harvest! Grown in open ground.
Andrey, Sudogda, Vladimir region.
These tomatoes are for lazy gardeners. The variety is practically maintenance-free. Requires only watering and fertilizing. There are many ripened fruits on each bush. In early June, we were already picking reddened tomatoes. A greenhouse was used for cultivation.
Irina, Moscow region.
The tomatoes are wonderful. The harvest was collected from June to October and grown in a greenhouse. True, the last fruits were very small. There were no illnesses and no special effort was put into caring for her. I cut off excess leaves so that they would not shade the fruit. Besides this, I only watered, fertilized and loosened occasionally. I didn’t tie up the bushes.
Our summer in Siberia is short and does not offer much sun and warmth. I grew this variety of tomatoes using the seedling method. It fully lives up to its name! The bushes grew in open ground; I did not add any fertilizers. Nevertheless, the harvest turned out great. I recommend “Turbojet” to everyone; I’m absolutely delighted with it!

Optimal growing conditions
The Turbojet tomato was bred for growing in greenhouses and open ground. Although breeders characterize the variety as resistant to adverse weather conditions, in the middle zone and in regions with more severe climates, many gardeners prefer to cultivate it in protected ground; in the south there is no need for shelter. In conditions of sufficient lighting, the Turbojet tomato can even grow at home on a windowsill. The main requirements of this variety of tomato for growing conditions are regular watering, sunlight and warmth. To obtain a rich harvest of this variety of tomatoes, a temperature of +21… +25°C is required.
Attention! It is believed that early-ripening tomatoes are inferior in taste to later varieties, but experienced vegetable growers claim that with good care, tomatoes of even ultra-early varieties have a rich tomato taste and aroma.
Reviews
Very compact bush! The tomatoes grew sweet; last year there was enough sunshine. The variety turned out to be the earliest. They grew on a high bed in open ground, without covering anything. The bushes are really all covered with tomatoes!
The bushes are very tiny and completely covered with tomatoes. I wanted to tie it up, but it didn’t work out, the fruits are from the very bottom to the top of the bush. They sang everything on the bush, they didn’t pick it green.
I recommend! I collected two buckets of sweet tomatoes from five bushes. We ate half, marinated half. This year I will definitely plant more of what is needed for open ground. I especially liked that it does not require pinning or building a support.
Growing
The Turbojet tomato is a representative of a heat-loving crop, so it is grown by seedlings. For seed germination and good plant development, a temperature of at least +20 °C is required. In the southern regions, seeds can be sown directly in open ground, but only after warm nights have established.
Caring for a Turbojet tomato is not difficult: the plants need regular watering, fertilizing, bush formation to increase productivity and prevention of diseases and pest damage.
Growing seedlings
Tomato seedlings of this variety begin to be grown on March 15–20. The highest quality seeds are first selected, disinfected, soaked in a growth stimulant, and then placed in boxes with nutrient soil to a depth of 2 cm, watered and left at a temperature of about +23 °C. At the stage of two or three true leaves, the seedlings are planted in individual cups. At the age of 55–60 days, tomatoes are planted in a permanent place.
Landing rules
Planting Turbojet tomato seedlings is not difficult and consists of the following steps:
- preliminary digging of the soil;
- digging planting holes;
- adding a mixture of organic fertilizers: mullein, compost, etc.;
- planting plants to a depth of about 10 cm;
- thorough watering.
Attention! Plants are placed at a distance of about 50 cm from each other. With the square-nested method, a 40x50 cm pattern is used.
When growing Turbojet tomatoes using the seedless method, the hatched seeds are placed in the soil. This allows you to achieve quick, friendly shoots.
Watering and fertilizing
Tomato Turbojet is demanding of moisture. Experienced gardeners recommend watering with warm water every day early in the morning or late in the evening, when the sun's rays cannot leave burns on the wet leaves of plants. After watering, be sure to loosen the soil under the bushes and remove weeds.
Tomatoes are fed during the formation of ovaries. Use complex fertilizers containing potassium and fluorine.
Pinching and tying
Like other super-determinate varieties, the Turbojet tomato does not require pinching, since the ovaries form on the stalks.
There is no need to tie up this compact plant - the bush has short and powerful stems, so it can support a large number of tomatoes. However, many gardeners still recommend tying up the plant just in case.
Formation
The Turbojet tomato bush grows slowly and, like other low-growing varieties of the crop, stops growing on its own after the formation of the 4-5th flower cluster. To obtain maximum yield, some gardeners form a Turbojet tomato bush with 1–2 stems, although the authors of the variety do not consider formation to be a mandatory procedure.
Protection from diseases and pests
The originator of the Turboreaktivny variety states that with timely disease prevention, this tomato is highly resistant to both fungal and viral diseases of nightshades. Even late blight, the disease that most often affects tomatoes, does not pose a threat to it. This is not least due to the fantastic precocity - the plant simply does not have time to get sick. However, before planting the Turbojet tomato in open ground, the soil should be treated with fungicides and the planting material should be disinfected.
To protect Turbojet tomato plantings from pest invasion, you should regularly inspect the plants. At the first sign of aphids, Colorado potato beetles or other insects or their larvae, the bushes should be immediately treated with suitable insecticides.
Planting dates and care features
The seed manufacturer recommends sowing 60-70 days before moving to the garden. You need to calculate the exact date based on your own climatic conditions and long-term weather forecast. By the time of transplantation, the threat of return frosts should have passed, and the soil should warm up to 15° C.
If we assume that the grains will sprout in about a week, 53-63-day-old seedlings will go into the ground. Obviously, Turbojet is a variety planted with already flowering fruit clusters or ovaries.
Seed preparation
Agro recommends planting seeds after treatment with stimulants, although there are no complaints from gardeners about poor germination. Other mandatory procedures before sowing:
- warming up;
- disinfection;
- soaking until swelling.
Sowing is done to a depth of 1-1.5 cm, the distance between rows is 4 cm, the grains are laid out every 1-2 cm. Water, cover with film or glass, and keep at a temperature of about 25 ° C.
Growing seedlings
After the first seeds have pecked, the tomatoes are transferred to a cool room and provided with additional lighting around the clock. Water regularly, lightly, avoiding drying out or soaking of the substrate.
Pick in the phase of 1-2 true leaves in individual cups. A common container cannot be used for transplanting seedlings - plants with flowers or ovaries will go into the ground, and even if the root system is slightly damaged, the tomato will drop them.
After 10-14 days, they begin to feed with a mineral complex with a high nitrogen content. Harden off 2 weeks before moving to the garden.
Planting and care in open ground
The seedlings are buried along the cotyledons. If it stretches out, it’s down to the first real leaf. For 1 sq. m you can place 3-5 Turbojet bushes.
Tomatoes should be watered regularly. This variety can withstand short-term dryness of the soil, but is not considered particularly resistant to lack of moisture.
Regular feeding is needed, especially since the bush is small and has a lot of fruits. The leaf apparatus simply cannot cope with feeding all the ovaries if it receives nutrients only from the soil.
From the moment the second brush is extended, calcium, phosphorus and potassium should predominate in the fertilizer. To support green mass, it is necessary to add small doses of nitrogen to the “diet”, perhaps through foliar feeding.
With such growth as Turbojet, tomatoes are rarely tied up. Although the variety is quite young, gardeners have already formed an opinion about it, and they still recommend installing supports.
Simple calculations showed that with a yield of 2 kg and a maximum weight of tomatoes of 80 g, at least 25 ovaries have time to fill and ripen on the plant. Given its low growth, the bush is completely covered with fruit clusters. It falls apart under their weight, the tomatoes fall to the ground, which opens the way for pathogens.
In order not to lose part of the harvest due to fungal or bacterial infections, Turbojet needs to be tied up, or the bed should be mulched with a thick layer of straw.
