Description

“Honey Heart” is a determinate variety. Unlike indeterminate varieties, it stops growing when the first tomatoes appear. The height of the bush rarely exceeds 60–70 cm. Therefore, it does not need to be tied up.

The variety is not only early ripening, but also high-yielding. Up to 8.5 kg of tomatoes ripen per 1 m2. The first tomatoes appear 90–94 days after the seedlings emerge. If you sow seeds in early March, you can harvest as early as the end of June.

“Honey Heart” is a light-loving plant. It grows well without film cover in the southern regions. Recommended for greenhouses in the middle zone. Residents of the northern regions are better off choosing other early ripening varieties. Or try growing tomatoes at home. They are suitable for growing in flowerpots on a balcony or loggia.

Diseases and pests

Tomatoes show good resistance to late blight, all types of root rot, and tobacco mosaic virus.

Pre-sowing seed treatment is often sufficient for the health of tomato bushes. In extreme weather conditions (heat, prolonged bad weather), the bushes are treated with phytosporin or other low-toxic fungicide.

Harvest

The fruits have a rich, honeyed taste and bright aroma. They weigh 120–150 g. They contain a large amount of sugars and beta-carotene. These tomatoes can be used to create a diet.

Each tomato has a beautiful orange-yellow color. Heart-shaped with a flat base and a slightly pointed tip. Tomatoes are resistant to cracking and tolerate transportation well . They ripen at home without losing their flavor and aroma characteristics.

Reviews from summer residents

Olga, Moscow region:

“I’ve been planting Honey Heart at my dacha for several years. The care is simple, the taste is satisfactory, we eat most of the tomatoes in salads, and some of them are used as juice for summer consumption. I weighed the fruits - all around 70 g. The bushes are about 60 cm high. I put up support, the stems are not very thick, I tie up the branches.”

Tomatoes for beginner gardeners - this is how you can characterize the easy-to-care hybrid Honey Heart. For those who do not have a summer cottage, Honey Heart is a real find; it can be grown in an apartment as a container crop.

Features of cultivation and care

In March or early April, the seeds are planted for seedlings. They are disinfected with a solution of potassium permanganate. Rinse well with water and dry. Then they are placed in a container with soil and sprinkled with a layer of soil no more than 2 cm. Cover with film and place in a warm place until sprouts appear.

After the seedlings emerge, remove the film and move the container to a well-lit place. The optimal temperature for seedlings is 23-25˚C. Small tomatoes are watered with warm water. Periodically loosen. After several leaves appear, they are transplanted into large pots. It will be beneficial to fertilize with fertilizers containing magnesium and potassium 2-3 times before transplanting into open ground.

In mid-May or early June, seedlings can be transplanted into a greenhouse or garden bed. The soil must be fertile. The recommended planting pattern is 40 cm between rows, 70 cm between bushes. Too much concentration of plants per 1 m2 has a bad effect on yield.

Maintenance is easy:

  • fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers several times until the ovaries appear;
  • loosening;
  • moderate watering with warm water;
  • removing the lower leaves.

In most cases, there is no need to pin and tie up the trunk. If necessary, you can put supports under the branches with fruits.

Opinions and recommendations of gardeners

Positive reviews about the Honey Heart tomato indicate the excellent taste of the fruit and the versatility of its use in cooking.

Efim Vasiliev, 59 years old, Barnaul: “A neighbor at the dacha described this hybrid as one of the best tomatoes grown on a personal plot. Last season I tried to cultivate tomatoes. When growing the Honey Heart variety, it is important to ensure a high organic content in the soil, otherwise the yield will decrease. The bushes are low, the fruits are of medium size and amazing shape. The children really liked the juicy pulp and sweet taste.”

Natalya Popova, 62 years old, Krasnodar: “I planted a Honey Heart on the balcony for the first time. I just decided to see how the plant would react to the limited space. Seedlings were grown from seeds. The adult seedlings were transferred to a container with substrate. I watered only with warm water and a solution of mineral fertilizers. The plant grew to a height of 65 cm. I was very pleased with the unusual taste of the fruits and their shape. When cut vertically, the tomato resembles honey.”

Bush care

“Honey Heart” has a short and strong stem, thanks to which the plants do not need staking and pinching. Maintenance of tomatoes comes down to basic activities :

    • The skin is thick compared to other varieties.

    On the other hand, tomato has more positive characteristics than disadvantages:

    1. The bright fruits have an excellent smell and taste for hybrids. They can be salted, canned, eaten fresh, cut into salads, or twisted into juices, pastes or sauces.
    2. The harvest has high commercial qualities. 90-95% of tomatoes are suitable for sale.
    3. The shelf life of ripe crops is long. During this time, their taste does not deteriorate. The tomato also tolerates transportation well.
    4. The harvest can be left to ripen.
    5. Tomatoes can be grown in any conditions: in the garden, under cover, in pots on the loggia.
    6. The plant does not need additional care: pinching, shaping, gartering.

    Tomato loves the warmth of the sun and the nutritional value of the soil. To sow seeds for seedlings, choose the time from mid-March to mid-April. Summer resident Elya in her review recommends the hybrid to lovers of yellow-fruited tomatoes from Bashkortostan. She calls the crop productive. Juicy tomatoes in juices are especially good.

    But Tatyana (Novosibirsk), in a polycarbonate greenhouse, was not pleased with the amount of yield and taste. The summer resident grew bushes with 2 stems. Each of them grew a pair of bunches of 5-7 tomatoes (100-150 g each). Maturation began really early.

    The skin of the fruit was hard. Because of this, the woman was unable to fully taste the pulp. As the season progressed, the tomato bed in her greenhouse suffered from cladosporiosis. Tatyana refused to sow next year, although she noted that the source of problems could be the abnormal weather conditions of the season.
