How to prepare tomato seeds for sowing?

Before sowing, seeds are disinfected. This is done in an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide or potassium permanganate. The seeds are soaked in this solution for 30 minutes, then they need to be washed and dried.

After this, the seeds need to be treated with a growth stimulator - soak in it for 10-12 hours.

Sowing of seeds is carried out using the following technology:

  1. Seeds are sown in late March - early April,
  2. Sowing is done in a light nutrient soil mixture, which includes turf soil, humus or peat. You can buy ready-made soil mixture or prepare it yourself.
  3. Seeds are sown to a depth of no more than 2 cm, after which they are sprayed with water. After this, it is better to put containers with seeds under film - this way they will germinate faster and the soil will not dry out.
  4. The temperature in the room should be +22… +25 degrees, at night it is recommended to lower the temperature slightly.
  5. After the first shoots appear, the containers should be placed on a sunny windowsill or under lamps; the film, of course, should be removed immediately. Seedlings of this variety need long daylight hours.
  6. When the first full-fledged leaves appear, the seedlings are planted in separate containers.
  7. After transplantation, the seedlings are fed with complex fertilizer. To strengthen weak shoots, you can use nitrogen-containing complexes. You can also feed before transplanting plants into the ground.

Growing seedlings

If you prefer to grow your own seedlings instead of buying ready-made seedlings, here are some tips to help with the process.

Considering that the main planting of the variety takes place around mid-May, it is necessary to start growing seedlings 60 days before, that is, in mid-March.

How to grow seedlings of the Podsinsky Miracle:

  • The first stage is seed selection. For seedlings, it is important to select only high-quality and healthy seeds. To separate the good seeds from the bad, a simple procedure is carried out. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water, and then add seeds. All floating seeds can be safely thrown away, and those lying at the bottom can be used for seedlings.
  • To ensure that as many seeds as possible germinate, they should be germinated before planting. To do this, the seeds are wrapped in gauze moistened with warm water. Gauze with seeds is placed in a saucer and left in a warm place for several days. When sprouts appear on the seeds, you can begin planting.
  • Soil for seedlings. Tomato seeds are planted in containers with a ready-made mixture for vegetable crops (can be purchased at the store). In this case, drainage (in the form of small pebbles) is first laid at the bottom of the containers, and then soil is poured.
  • Small grooves are made in the soil, up to 2 centimeters deep, where the seeds are planted. After planting, the seeds need to be watered.
  • The containers are covered with cling film and placed in a dark place. The room should be warm, within +20 – +25°C. After the first shoots appear, the containers with seedlings should be moved to a sunny place or under artificial lighting.
  • Grown seedlings can be planted in separate containers with peat soil.

Planting bushes in a permanent place and caring for them

Tomato bushes Podsinsky miracle are planted in the ground in a permanent place in the second half of May, when the threat of the last frost has passed. Tomatoes do well in fertilized soils. You can fertilize it with manure. In general, tomatoes prefer organic fertilizers.

Good predecessors for tomatoes would be legumes, herbs, onions, garlic or zucchini. The variety can be planted both in open ground and in a greenhouse. With the second option, it is important to remember that pinching tomatoes in a greenhouse is necessary, because in comfortable conditions much more greenery grows.

To prevent the planting from becoming crowded, seedlings are planted 50-60 cm apart from each other; it is especially important to maintain this distance in greenhouses. Thus, three tomato bushes are planted per 1 square meter.

After planting, the bushes need to be watered with warm, settled water. If the seedlings are planted in open ground, then at first they need to be covered.

Subsequent care consists of regular watering, pinching, tying and weeding.

The first watering is carried out a week after planting, then as needed - 1-2 times a week. There is no need to water frequently and abundantly; this can cause cracking of the fruit and the appearance of watery pulp. Thus, you need to water carefully to prevent the soil from becoming waterlogged.

The bushes grow tall, so they must be tied to a support. As a rule, they lead them in one stem, the stepsons remove everything in time.

To make the soil dry out less and to have fewer weeds in the garden bed, the soil is mulched with mowed grass.

It is better to feed the Podsinsky miracle tomato with organic fertilizers or mineral complexes. During the season, only 3-4 feedings are carried out.

Features of agricultural technology

The tomato has a tendency to branch, which is why it is called a liana. Plants should be placed no more than 3 bushes per m².

Advice. You can start planting seedlings in May, when the temperature is not lower than 140.

Immediately when moving the seedlings, you need to install pegs to make it easier to form a bush. As a standard, agronomists leave 1 stem, but if you want to get a more abundant harvest, you can save a couple of stepsons. Root watering, a drip system is also recommended. When first watering, the water should be warm.

Tomato genetic immunity to diseases can be supported by treating with copper-containing preparations and disinfecting the soil.

It is better to fertilize tomatoes with organic compounds; complex concentrates are welcome. Fertilizing should be increased during the most critical periods (flowering, ovary formation). Mulching will help maintain the required concentration of microelements. It is preferable to use straw and hay, laying out a dense layer of up to 8 cm.

Agronomists save crops from pests by spraying. You can use a solution with celandine or soap; mustard and garlic will repel caterpillars.

Tomato can grow in any region, but the highest yields were recorded in the gardens of the Crimea and Krasnodar Territory.

Susceptibility to diseases and pests

The Podsinskoye Miracle variety is not susceptible to major tomato diseases, but in greenhouses young plants can develop rot: gray rot, apical rot, and root rot.

To prevent the spread of diseases, you need to follow preventive measures: before planting seedlings, disinfect the soil, regularly ventilate greenhouses, spray the bushes with special means, such as Fitosporin or another non-toxic biological product.

To prevent late blight, plantings can be treated with copper-containing preparations. If the plant is already affected by late blight, the leaves should be immediately cut off and burned.

Sometimes tomatoes can be affected by various insect pests: aphids, spider mites, thrips. If a tomato is grown in open ground, it can be affected by the Colorado potato beetle, slugs, and mole crickets.

Insect larvae are destroyed with a solution of potassium permanganate or ammonia. Before flowering begins, you can use insecticidal preparations; they are quite effective in controlling insects.

Growing tomatoes

The main stage in growing tomatoes is growing seedlings; the future harvest will depend on this. Of course, you can always buy ready-made seedlings, but it’s still better to grow them yourself.

Seedling bushes are transplanted when the air temperature does not consistently fall below 14 degrees.

There are 3 bushes per 1 m2. Make sure that the plantings are not thickened.

Important care points:

  1. Feeding during flowering, setting, ripening.
  2. Mulching with straw, hay at least 8 cm thick.
  3. Drip irrigation or watering directly under the root.

The main stage in growing tomatoes is growing seedlings; the future harvest will depend on this. Of course, you can always buy ready-made seedlings, but it’s still better to grow them yourself.

Variety yield and reviews

The yield of the Podsinsky Miracle tomato is quite good; compared to other varieties it is considered average - about 5-6 kg per square meter.

The variety is grown both in open ground and in greenhouses, but in the latter option the yield will be higher and the fruits themselves will be larger. The variety can be cultivated throughout Russia, even in the northern regions, as it is not afraid of cold weather and temperature changes.

Those gardeners who have already planted the Podsinsky Miracle tomato gave it fairly high marks due to its many positive qualities and lack of drawbacks. Even fairly busy gardeners can grow it - with minimal effort you can get a pretty good harvest. You can improve productivity by frequent fertilizing and maintaining the correct watering regime.
