  • average weight 90-140 g;
  • the flesh is fleshy, dense;
  • the skin is strong;
  • The taste balances sourness and sweetness.

How to grow a tomato

The rules for planting and growing this variety of tomatoes are not much different from others.

Important ! The Imperia F1 variety was bred artificially, and the fruit seeds do not have the genes for growing the next generation of plants. Therefore, every year it is necessary to buy new seeds for planting.

Before planting, the seeds are soaked in a solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection. Planting takes place 55-60 days before the expected date of transplantation into a greenhouse or soil. It is better to plant seeds in separate plastic cups. This will make the picking step easier or even skip it.

Picking is carried out immediately after the leaves appear from the soil. It is done as an intermediate step before planting in a greenhouse and allows you to prepare the root system and strengthen it.

In order not to destroy the seedlings, remember that the temperature in the room should be maintained and the air humidity should be controlled. In addition, daylight hours should be at least 13 hours.

After two months from the date of planting (when the plants reach about 25 cm in height), the seedlings can be moved to the greenhouse. Don't forget to prepare the soil in advance: mix it with humus and treat it with insect repellent. For 1 sq. Plant no more than six Empire bushes per meter. The optimal conditions for healthy growth of tomatoes will be a temperature of +24C and a humidity of about 70%.

Approximately 10 days after transplanting the plants into the greenhouse, pinching should begin. This is the name for removing excess shoots from plants so that nutrients are directed not to growth, but to the formation of fruits.

It is recommended to form no more than two stems. The most important stage of care is also staking the plants. To do this, use strong sticks and twines, as a large number of fruits can break the bush.

Remember to ventilate the greenhouse and provide sufficient light to prevent fungus and rot. Water deeply twice a week. Don't forget about weeding and loosening the soil.

Within 18 days after moving the plants to the greenhouse, you will be able to observe the appearance of the first flowers. Fruit ripening begins 90 days after the appearance of the first shoots. Thanks to such a short ripening period, the variety is ideal for growing in regions with cold and short summers.

Pros and cons of tomato

Empire tomatoes have a lot of advantages and benefits.

The following are worthy of attention:

  1. Strong immune system. Plants are resistant to almost all known diseases that affect stems, leaves and fruits.
  2. Resistance to temperature changes, drought and high humidity. The tomato perfectly withstands all the vagaries of weather that are characteristic of the climate of our country.
  3. High germination rate. Almost all seedlings survive, both after planting the seeds and after replanting the plants in the ground.
  4. Good keeping quality. The fruits tolerate storage and transportation well. They do not deteriorate even after being transported in the back of a truck on a bad road.
  5. Easy to care for. All that is necessary to get a good harvest is to regularly water the bushes, thoroughly loosen the soil and apply fertilizers to it.
  6. Good culinary properties. The fruits do not crack when canned or after defrosting. When dried, they retain their color and taste.

The disadvantage of the Empire variety is the need to tie up each bush. This requires high and strong poles. Their preparation, installation and removal requires additional time and effort. Not everyone likes the thick skin of tomatoes. The solution is to clean each fruit.

How to sow and care

Before planting the seeds, they are treated with a weak solution of manganese. Seeds need to be planted in fertilized soil. The land is fertilized with peat or humus. After the seeds have hatched and seedlings have appeared, the plants dive. This is done to make the plant stronger.

Plants are planted at two months of age. Before planting seedlings in open ground, the plants need to be hardened off. The bushes grow large and love space. Therefore, 2-3 plants are usually planted per square meter.

Tomatoes do not require special care. The main thing is regular watering, loosening the soil and periodic feeding.

Characteristics of tomatoes

Tomato Empire is an early ripening, tall, indeterminate variety. The height of an adult bush varies from 1.8 to 2.2 meters. Quite often you can find plants almost 2.5 m high. Due to the fact that tomatoes grow quite large, the seedlings must be pinched and tied to a trellis in time. Every 14 days, new stepsons that appear are completely removed at the root. It is better to carry out pinching in sunny and calm weather so that the wounds on the seedlings heal faster. Tomatoes must be tied to a strong support or to a greenhouse frame. The resulting long stems are carefully bent onto twine.

It is better to cultivate tomatoes in the southern regions of the country. Experts allow the cultivation of Empire tomatoes, both in open ground and under film covers. Specially equipped greenhouses with fireplaces allow you to grow tomatoes all year round.

During the growing season, tomatoes actively bloom and set ovaries. The first flowers appear on the 8th leaf, then flowering stems are formed every two leaves. Each stalk contains 4-7 flowers, which gradually turn into real fruits.

The root system of tall tomatoes is quite well developed. Thanks to the large network of roots, Empire tomatoes receive the maximum amount of essential micronutrients and moisture. However, due to their large roots, tomatoes cannot be planted in a dense planting. Gardeners recommend planting one plant per 50x40 cm.

Advantages of Empire tomatoes:

  • good keeping quality of berries;
  • high productivity;
  • the fruits retain their “marketable appearance” for a long time;
  • high immunity to many diseases;
  • tolerate long-term transportation favorably;
  • short growing season.

Despite all the advantages, each variety has its disadvantages:

  1. Tomatoes are an indeterminate plant species, which means that plant growth does not have any restrictions. This variety is quite difficult to cultivate in open ground, as it will require special care for the tomatoes.
  2. When growing tomatoes in open ground, the tomato yield is almost two times less than when growing in greenhouses.
  3. The inner pulp is quite dense. It cannot be used to prepare tomato juice.

Description of fruits

The tomato has elongated, cream-shaped fruits of bright red color and an elongated spout. At maturity they are orange-red in color. The fruits are medium in size and grow up to 150 grams. Tomatoes are characterized by their versatility. They are used both for fresh salads and for preservation. Gardeners have noticed that delicious recipes are obtained by pickling such vegetables.

When preserved, the fruit does not lose its properties and does not burst due to its dense peel. In addition, these tomatoes are characterized by good keeping quality and transportability. Often, the variety is used for commercial purposes because the fruits have a good appearance for a long time.

How to grow super seedlings of the Crimson and Yellow Empire: 5 secrets

Strong, healthy seedlings are the key to hardy plants that will produce a rich harvest and be able to withstand the vagaries of the weather. To make sure everything works out for you, we are sharing our signature secrets of growing super seedlings of hybrid tomatoes.

Secret 1. Choose the right time for sowing seeds for seedlings

In our experimental farming, we cannot make mistakes. Therefore, we focus on the timing of fruit ripening.

Here is an example of a calculation for the Middle Band:

  • the ripening period of hybrids is 95–100 days,
  • The age of planting seedlings in a greenhouse is 65–70 days.

It turns out that in order to plant seedlings of tall indeterminate hybrids in closed ground at the end of April - beginning of May, we sow the seeds in mid-February.

Note!

Low-growing determinate varieties are usually planted in open ground. This means that the sowing dates are moving forward.

In the conditions of Central Russia, we recommend planting tomato seedlings in open ground at the end of May - beginning of June at the age of 45–60 days. Accordingly, start growing seedlings in late March - early April.

Secret 2. Germinate tomato seeds before sowing

Proper preparation of tomato seeds before sowing guarantees 100% germination and reliable seedlings.

  1. Soak the seeds for 12–16 hours so that they are saturated with oxygen. We use melted snow water at room temperature.
  2. the soaked seeds and place them on a damp napkin or cloth.
  3. Place in a container with a lid (you can use a plastic food container), close the lid and put in a warm place for germination (approx. 2 days).

The fact is that the seeds are treated with special substances (inhibitors) that retain freshness for a long time and prevent germination. Soaking removes inhibitors and promotes germination.

The optimal temperature for germination is 24–25 °C. In such conditions, the seeds will sprout on the 2nd day

Keep an eye on the seeds: as soon as they have sprouted, start sowing!

Secret 3. Sow sprouted seeds

Any separate containers (volume no more than 200 ml) or seedling boxes are suitable for sowing hatched seeds. There are also no special nutritional requirements for the soil. The main thing is that it should be light, moisture- and breathable.

  • Take the sprout with tweezers and place it in a container on the surface of the soil.
  • Sprinkle with soil with a layer of 1-2 cm
  • Firm with your fingers and pour over.

Secret 4. Care for the seedlings

After sowing, the containers should be placed in a warm, dark place. The ideal temperature for germination is approx. 22 °C.

  1. When shoots appear, immediately move the pots to a bright place.
  2. The seedlings need to be watered regularly, without drying out or flooding the soil.
  3. We recommend maintaining the night temperature within 16–18 °C.

Secret 5. Dive into large pots and nutrient soil

Picking tomatoes is an important stage in growing super seedlings. It is important to choose capacious containers, prepare nutritious soil, and not miss picking dates.

When to dive?

We pick the tomatoes after the third true leaf appears.

What kind of soil is needed for picking?

Grown-up seedlings are more capricious regarding the composition of the soil and require more fertile soil.

We suggest preparing a nutritious soil mixture for seedlings with your own hands according to our signature recipe:

  • 3 parts vermicompost,
  • 2 parts river sand,
  • 1 part neutralized peat,
  • 1 part perlite.

Mix everything and fill the containers.

What containers should I dive into?

When picking, you will need larger pots with a volume of at least 0.8–1 liters.

How to dive?

  1. Pour some potting soil mixture into the container.
  2. Transfer the seedlings with a clod of earth and fill the remaining cavities with soil.
  3. Compact, water and put in the brightest place.
Do not overwater or overdry, provide the seedlings with light. And the seedlings will definitely grow super!

Features of agricultural technology

Tomato Empire is sown as seedlings 2 months before transplanting to a permanent location. After 2 true leaves appear on the plants, young tomatoes dive. Indeterminate varieties and hybrids require garter. Trellis and supports are installed simultaneously with planting seedlings.

Form a tomato into 1 stem. When growing in the garden, leave 2 shoots. As they grow and develop, the shoots and aged leaves are removed, thereby providing the fruit with maximum nutrition. Regular watering, periodic fertilizing and loosening the soil are the key to a decent harvest.

General characteristics of tomato

Empire tomatoes produce their first fruits within 85-100 days after planting. This period depends on the weather conditions and plant care. The height of the bushes reaches 180-200 cm. Tying is required. Each branch has many shoots covered with dark green leaves with a pungent spicy odor. The inflorescences are simple, pollination occurs on the first try.

The yield of the variety is very high, which contributes to its popularity among private gardeners and farmers. On average, 9 kg of tomatoes are harvested from 1 bush. The fruits are small, weighing up to 150 g. The tomatoes are oval in shape, slightly pointed at the bottom. At the early stage of ripening, the color is bright red, gradually adding yellowness to it. According to consumer reviews, tomatoes have a pleasant taste; they are consumed separately, added to salads, first and second courses, dried and canned.

A special feature of the fruit is its thick and strong skin. It protects the pulp from damage when dropped and transported.

This property is appreciated by trading companies that purchase Empire tomatoes for sale in winter and spring, when prices for vegetables rise significantly. Even after six months of storage, tomatoes do not lose their presentation and taste.

Tomato Empire

“Raspberry Empire” is a wonderful tomato variety that allows experienced and novice gardeners to get a good harvest of tasty and aromatic vegetables. The hybrid is not picky and very productive. It is loved and grown by many domestic gardeners. For those who are still unfamiliar with this variety, we will try to provide the most interesting and useful information that will help you get to know the tomato better and successfully cultivate it on your site.

Diseases and pests

Despite a high immune system, tomatoes can still become infected with fungal and infectious diseases, as well as be attacked by pests. As a preventative measure, seedlings should be treated with special solutions once a month. It is better to spray using a mechanical sprayer. At the genetic level, tomatoes have good antibodies to stem and root rot and brown spot. The only exception is late blight.

The variety loves abundant watering and high humidity. Dry soil has an extremely negative effect on the formation of ovaries, as well as the ripening of fruits. During the growing season, it is better to mulch the top layer of soil with straw or sawdust to avoid drying out of the soil. The most favorable method of watering is drip irrigation.

The majority of experienced gardeners claim that Empire tomatoes are very aromatic and tasty. The fruits can be used to prepare sauces, pastes and canned whole. Tomatoes can also be used in salads or as a decorative element on a banquet table. The fruits contain a high amount of healthy vitamins, acids, minerals and fiber.
