Description of the tomato variety Batyanya

Tomato Batyanya was created in 2007 by Siberian scientists. It is suitable for cultivation in different regions of Russia and countries with similar climates. Suitable for growing in open and protected ground. It was entered into the State Register in 2008.

The pulp is fleshy, with a high juice content

The variety is early, the first fruits can be harvested after 90 days (3 months) in a greenhouse or after 105 days in open ground. The bushes of this variety are indeterminate, so without growth restrictions they can grow more than 2.1 meters in height. The plants are powerful, strong, and produce many branches and shoots. The leaves are large, dark green. Approximately 10 flowers are formed on each bush.

The fruits are very large and beautiful. The shape is heart-shaped, the ribs are not pronounced. Average weight - 500 g. Important!

You can collect planting material from the Batyanya tomato. Since this is a variety and not a hybrid, the seeds will germinate well next year and produce a large harvest.

These qualities distinguish the variety from its analogues, so it is often chosen not only by experienced gardeners, but also by beginners.

Growing rules

The Batyanya tomato variety is intended for cultivation in open ground and greenhouses. In the southern regions, you can use the direct method, that is, plant the seeds directly into the ground. In cold regions, you should not resort to such risks. It is better to use mature seedlings of the variety.

Planting seedlings

Before planting, Batyanya tomato seeds should be checked for suitability so as not to plant empty ones. Pour the contents of the bags into a container with warm water. Those that will sink are suitable for landing, those that float can be thrown away.

Batyanya tomato seeds begin to be sown for seedlings 60 days before the intended planting in a greenhouse or in open ground beds. The substrate should be loose, nutritious, and well-drained. Peat composition, turf or humus soil are optimal for the variety. Low acidity required. Seedling boxes are suitable for sowing seeds. They are deepened into the soil by 1.5–2 cm, sprinkled and watered with warm water. The top of the container is covered with film or glass to create a greenhouse effect. The temperature for germination of seedlings is +24–26° C.

After about 3-4 days, the seeds will sprout. Then you should stop covering them and move them to the light. Reduce the temperature by 6–7 °C, which will strengthen the root system of the variety and prevent the plants from stretching upward too much. When two leaves appear, the seedlings begin to dive.

Tomato transplant

At the age of 55–60 days, it is recommended to plant the seedlings in a permanent place. Despite the fact that the Batyanya tomato is considered a frost-resistant crop, planting must still be done after the night temperature drops have stopped. The variety is tall, so it is recommended to plant it on 1 square meter. m no more than three bushes. The distance between the holes is 50–55 cm, and the row spacing is 35 cm.

Attention! Dense planting can reduce yields.

According to reviews, Batyan tomatoes grow on light, well-fertilized soils. If last year cabbage, carrots, dill, zucchini, cucumbers, and legumes grew on the plot, then the tomatoes will develop well. The vegetable does not like heavy, dense soils, which do not allow the full formation of the root system.

Before planting, 10 g of superphosphate is poured into each prepared hole.

Subsequent care for tomatoes

Treatments include:

  1. When the tomatoes of the Batyanya variety reach a height of 30–35 cm, it is time to tie them to vertical supports. To do this, a stake is built near the hole and a stem is tied to it. This is necessary so that it does not break under the weight of the fruit.
  2. The bush forms two stems. The lower foliage is cut off to the first brush. Stepchildren are also regularly removed.
  3. Moderate moisture is required for Batyan tomatoes. About once a week, as the soil under the bushes dries out. It is advisable to use warm water for irrigation.
  4. After moistening, the next day, it is necessary to loosen the soil.
  5. Mineral and organic fertilizers are applied before fruit formation begins. A mullein solution with the addition of nitrophoska works well.
  6. An equally important procedure is the removal of weeds from the beds.
  7. It is useful to scatter wood ash around the bushes.

Unlike other varieties, Batyanya tomatoes do not shrink even in depleted soils.

Disadvantages of the variety

The Batyanya variety also has disadvantages, but there are not many of them.

  • The plant forms a lot of stepsons. If they are not removed, the Batyanya tomato will spend energy on the development of tops, and not on the formation of fruits.
  • There are not many seeds in the fruits and their germination is poor. Because of this, you have to store a large number of seeds, otherwise you may be left without seedlings at all! And in order for seeds to germinate better, some gardeners carry out disinfection, treatment, germination and other procedures, which take a lot of time.
  • At high humidity, tomatoes crack and may begin to rot. The same problem can occur if plants are watered too often.

Important!

The fruits must be consumed or processed as early as possible, otherwise they will quickly spoil. This variety is not suitable for long-term storage.

It should also be noted that the variety produces high yields only with high-quality care. If plantings are not monitored, the yield will be low.

Main advantages of the variety

The variety has more advantages than disadvantages. This:

  • early maturation;
  • large fruits;
  • high transportability;
  • unpretentiousness to growing conditions;
  • resistance to late blight;
  • high yield rates;
  • good taste characteristics.

The disadvantages include the need for staking tomatoes.

  • Advantages of the variety:
  • high productivity;
  • long fruiting;
  • resistance to fungal diseases;
  • undemanding to soil composition;
  • good adaptation abilities;
  • the opportunity to independently collect seeds from the harvest for the purpose of further propagation.
  • Disadvantages of the variety:
  • tendency to cracking when ripened fruits are left on the bush for a long time and there is an excess of moisture;
  • high growth of bushes;
  • education of a large number of stepchildren;
  • average seed germination;
  • branches breaking off under the weight of fruit.
  • high rates of transportability;
  • resistance to frost and drought;
  • possibility of propagation at home using seeds;
  • high yield rates;
  • slight foliage;
  • resistance to late blight;
  • early ripeness.

It is best to grow Batyanya tomatoes using the seedling method. In this case, they will produce a harvest faster. Seeds are sown from mid-March. Before use, they must be disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate and soaked in clean water for 6-12 hours. If desired, they can also be soaked in a solution of Kornevin, Epin or similar growth stimulants.

It is best to grow Batyanya tomatoes using the seedling method.

The soil that is taken for sowing seeds must be calcined in the oven or watered with a solution of potassium permanganate. The soil is made up of 1 part compost, 1 part garden soil, 2 parts peat. For a bucket of this mixture, take another 30 g of superphosphate, 10 g of potassium sulfate, the same amount of urea and 200 g of wood ash. If you wish, you can buy ready-made soil in stores, especially for seedlings.

Important!

The seedling container should have holes for water drainage and a good layer of drainage! Otherwise, the risk of blackleg will increase.

When the soil is already in the container, fluffed up and leveled, you can make furrows in it for sowing. The seeds are buried in them no more than 1 cm. After sowing, you need to sprinkle them with soil, moisten the soil with a spray bottle, cover the container with film and place it in a warm place. For seed germination, a temperature of +25 degrees is required.

Important!

To prevent plant roots from being damaged during transplantation, it is best to plant seedlings directly in peat or paper cups.

When the shoots appear, you need to lower the temperature to +15 degrees for a whole week. If this is not done, the sprouts will become very elongated and the stem will be frail and weak. Such plants are difficult to grow due to low immunity and poor resistance to weather conditions. After a week, when the tomatoes have been kept at a low temperature, it is raised to +21 degrees on average. This temperature is maintained throughout the growing of seedlings, right up to hardening.

2 weeks before planting the seedlings in a permanent place, the Batyanya tomato needs to start hardening

You need to pick seedlings when the seedlings have 2 true leaves. At this time, the sprouts are placed in separate cups or in a spacious box so that there is about 10 cm of free space between the sprouts. Watering is carried out once every 1-1.5 weeks so that water does not stagnate in the container.

2 weeks before planting the seedlings in a permanent place, the Batyanya tomato needs to start hardening. To do this, the sprouts are taken out into the fresh air for 30 minutes and then brought back into the house. Every day the ventilation time should be increased by 10-15 minutes.
