Against other types of diseases, only prevention is required, watering and lighting regimes, timely application of fertilizers; these measures will protect your tomato from all troubles. Read about tomatoes that are completely resistant to late blight here.

Of the pests, the most frequently attacked is the gnawing cutworm. This happens both in greenhouse shelters and in open ground. There is a reliable remedy against it, the drug “Strela”. To prevent the pest from becoming an uninvited guest again next year, you need to thoroughly weed the soil in the fall, collect insect larvae and thoroughly spray them with “Strela.”

May also be attacked by spider mites. To combat this pest, use a strong soap solution, which is used to wipe the areas of the plant that have been affected by the insect. By washing them away and creating an environment unsuitable for their life. This will not cause any harm to the plant.

This variety of tomatoes has strong immunity to many diseases. With proper care and timely feeding, no pests are scary. And, even if some kind of “tomato” disease strikes, or a worm attacks you, you will always find any suitable remedy for the problem on sale.

Features of varietal tomatoes from the Netherlands

Nowadays, on store shelves you can find many varieties and hybrids of tomatoes from various manufacturers. A fairly large market share belongs to companies from the Netherlands, for example, Nunhems, Seminis, Syngenta, Bejo. Among imported seeds, they are undoubtedly the leaders.

As an edible crop, tomatoes were not used in Europe until the 18th century, although they were brought from America two and a half centuries before that. As for the Netherlands, despite the heat-loving culture, it quickly took root in this country.

Very often, it is for this reason that our gardeners choose Dutch tomato varieties. The Netherlands is a country with a minimum number of sunny days a year, there is very frequent rain, so when crossing, breeders try to develop varieties and hybrids that are resistant to such conditions.

Among Dutch tomatoes there are both those that can be grown in greenhouses and those that are intended for open ground. However, do not delude yourself: for each specific hybrid or variety it is necessary to withstand the conditions for which it was bred.

Important! When choosing seeds, pay attention to the information on the packaging.

For some, ripening time and taste are important, but for others, the safety of tomatoes, the ability to transport them, or even quality such as the height of the bush and the difficulty of caring for the plant are considered more important.

If you buy seeds of hybrids or varieties in a store, make sure that the information on the packaging is translated into Russian. Important information:

  • tomato disease resistance;
  • ripening period of tomatoes;
  • size of plant and fruit;
  • yield per bush or square meter;
  • use and taste.

Since competition in the market today is great, new greenhouse farms are built every year, experts advise from time to time to try new breeding products, including imported tomatoes.

And this is all about him, the tomato...

In incredible ways, new varieties come to me. A gardener from Novo-Lenino offered to exchange seeds. One variety came to me from Italy, another from Bulgaria, friends brought seeds from Spain. One of the varieties is yellow-green in color, ribbed, and in price and taste is equal to a specially prepared meat dish.

A Baltic resident living in Irkutsk said that he brought Reiso tomato seeds from Germany. This fruit of unusual shape and structure consists of lobes, like a garlic head. He planted and raised it while he was away, and his family with great pleasure consumed everything that was ripe, not leaving it for seeds. How can you miss this? Friends helped me obtain seeds of this variety via the Internet. God willing, in the fall we will be able to get something that will become the property of Siberian gardeners.

The people of Irkutsk themselves do not let us stop. During the intermission at Valery Leontyev’s concert, a young woman approached and wondered out loud: “I thought that you were only busy with your tomatoes, but you also go to concerts!” To the question: “Are we familiar?” - answered: “Where do you know all the people of Irkutsk? I grow tomatoes from your seeds, I’m very pleased. We are waiting for new varieties."

So, I haven’t done everything yet as a tomato evangelist. I’ll tell you about last year’s tomatoes, which pleased me with their taste, color, shape, and yield. These are mainly varieties from Altai collectors Yashchenko and Popenko. Of the 50 varieties, not everything sprouted, not everything was liked, not everything confirmed the varietal identity.

Round-fruited: Giant-5, Lighthouse, Scarlet Flower, Miracle Robin, Masterpiece, Giant-winner, Raspberry Miracle, Altai Masterpiece, Star of Texas, Super Elite, Giant Yashchenko, Goliath.

Round, flat-round, beefsteak - in our understanding, the traditional shape for tomatoes. I have no complaints about the yield or the size of the fruit. It is known that high yield and large fruit size require increased nutrition, including mineral fertilizers. I am satisfied with the mass of fruits of 300–800 grams. To maintain optimal performance, I consider it sufficient to provide humus and a pinch of fertilizer in the hole when planting the AVA complex of micro- and macrominerals.

I would especially like to talk about the Texas Star variety. Author Popenko described the variety as an excellent tasting delicacy with few seeds. The seeds from the second sowing have sprouted. The two plants developed in complex ways. One preceded the other and bore fruit. This is, indeed, something extraordinary: a flat-round shape weighing about 700 g, crimson color with yellow flashes or yellow color with crimson flashes, very few seeds. But everyone who tried it noted the fruity taste, extraordinary sweetness, and abundant juiciness. I believe that by leaving I will be able to win over the Star of Texas for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Heart-shaped varieties of tomatoes: Sen-Sey, Serdtseed, Heart of the Urals, Andijansky, Dedushkino Rooster Feather, Dish, Palestine. This fruit shape is elongated-heart-shaped, massively heart-shaped, ark-shaped, and even raspberry-pink in color. They are very attractive in appearance, tasty, simply delicious, not for salads, but for large-scale consumption. As the son of a neighbor in the country said: “Cutting such fruits into a salad is simply blasphemy.”

The Andijan variety is the earliest. Cock feather - its first brush resembles a fan or a rooster's tail. There is a special relationship with Palestine: a massive goblet-shaped fruit with a point at the top - worthily corresponds to its world-famous name. Tasty, productive.

And in this package there was a dark-colored tomato seed of a round shape, about 400 g, which complemented the list of dark-colored fruits. I have already written about them: Watermelon, Negress, Black Nightshade, Giant of Cuba, Lilac Lake (I would call it Chocolate Lake). Today, Black Pear and Black Cherry will also be added to the collection of dark flowers. All tomatoes are very healthy, and dark flowers are considered very healing.

There was an American long variety - an amazing tomato. The fruit is up to 30 cm long, pepper-shaped, almost hollow, with a few seeds. Fruitful, hung from top to bottom with pepper fruits. It’s good and convenient to stuff it. But it didn’t come to that; I had to put all the fruits into seeds. It’s good to dry it in cubes.

The giant pink plum turned out to be a plum up to 20 cm long. An oval, shiny fruit of raspberry-pink color, dense, juicy, mouth-wateringly tasty. There are a lot of such icicles on the bush, so the yield of Giant Pink Cream is excellent. Universally used fresh and for winter preparations.

Here are the main representatives from last year. See you in the fall with a new collection!

Review of the best varieties of tomatoes

Let's look at the most popular Dutch tomatoes in Russia today. They are found on the shelves of most gardening stores. Some gardeners generally do not pay attention to them, believing that imported products are not suitable for growing in our conditions. This statement is incorrect.

Below is a short table of the main parameters, which is very convenient to navigate. A detailed description of these hybrids and varieties is given below.

Important! If the name of a tomato contains the mark F1, this means that this is a hybrid, not a variety.

It is distinguished by its high growth vigor, but it will not be possible to collect seeds from such tomatoes for further cultivation.
