So, Liana tomato characteristics and description of the variety: it belongs to the determinate species of tomatoes, in other words, its bushes, having average branching, have limited growth, which rarely exceeds 40 cm.

The first inflorescence appears at a level just above the fifth leaf and alternates every 1 - 2 leaves. In general, one bush can produce up to five fruit clusters, each containing up to five tomatoes.

Liang tomatoes description of the fruit: they grow in the correct shape. When ripe, small fruits (on average weighing 80 grams) acquire a rich, bright color of thin skin and a dense, fleshy structure with two or three seed chambers.

Later, a variety of this variety was bred - pink Lyana. To a large extent, the varieties are similar in appearance, although “pink Lyana” has a more delicate color, and its fruits are much larger and tastier. In addition, the maturation of “pink Lyana” occurs faster.

Advantages and disadvantages

Liang tomatoes owe their popularity among gardeners in the European part of Russia and Siberia to a number of advantages over other varieties of tomatoes, among which the following advantages should be highlighted:

  • High yield.
  • Attractive appearance and optimal sizes.
  • Excellent taste.
  • The versatility of fruit use. Lyana tomatoes, the description of which suggests that they are suitable for almost all types of processing: pickling, pickling, drying, eating fresh, frying, boiling, stewing, etc....
  • Tomatoes can be stored fresh for quite a long time - up to two months.

However, with all its advantages, the plant, if improperly or insufficiently cared for, is susceptible to various kinds of diseases, among which special attention should be paid to susceptibility to tobacco mosaic, as well as exposure to late blight in the open ground.

Also, plant bushes often become the target of attack by pests and harmful insects.

Use of fruits

Liang's tomatoes are well-deservedly popular among gardeners. Thanks to the versatility of the fruit, they are widely used at home. Fresh ripe tomatoes are used for preparing salads, first and second courses. They are salted, pickled, and also frozen. These tomatoes make excellent preparations for the winter - tomato juice, sauces, fruit drinks. Tomatoes can be canned or stored for long-term storage. Tomatoes of this variety are suitable for dietary and baby food.

Breeding seedlings

Although Liang tomatoes are universal, they are used to a greater extent in preparing preparations and various canning products, therefore, they are usually planted in large quantities, which means that the number of seedlings should be planned to be significant.

And although the rapid ripening of fruits makes it possible to plant seeds directly into the garden bed, in this case the period of fruit ripening increases, so it is still better to plant through seedlings. The optimal age for this are bushes with an age of 45 - 50 days. You can start preparing seedlings from the end of March or at the very beginning of April.

It is better to plant seeds in a box; you can also do this in cups, but then you will need much more space to place them. The main thing to remember is that the temperature of the ground when planting seeds should not be below 14 degrees Celsius.

Before planting seeds, it is recommended to first prepare them:

  • Calibrate - selecting seeds of approximately the same size will allow the sprouts to sprout almost simultaneously, which will make caring for the seedlings much easier.
  • Carry out the disinfection procedure by soaking the seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate - this will protect the seedlings from the effects of various types of viral and infectious diseases in the future.

After preparation, the seeds are placed into the soil to a depth of at least 2 cm and an approximate distance between seeds of 3 cm, after which the box can be covered with glass and left at room temperature.

After 5–6 days, sprouts should appear. After the seedlings appear, it is imperative to reduce the air temperature to 16 - 18 degrees Celsius, otherwise the sprouts will grow and become unsuitable for planting in the ground. Then the seedlings are left in this state, occasionally watered or fed with mineral fertilizers if the soil is insufficiently saturated.

Ideal seedlings have a strong stem approximately 20 cm high.

Approximately a week before planting seedlings in the ground, it is necessary to first develop resistance to external conditions. You should place the seedlings in the largest possible area open to fresh air (for example, on a balcony) and reduce the amount of watering.

Landing

The tomato is a heat-loving plant, but still prefers open air to the greenhouse.

However, it is important to know that the Liana tomato variety does not tolerate heavy soil, so before planting, the soil needs to be loosened as much as possible, and before placing the sprout in the ground, you need to water the planting site with a weak solution of potassium permanganate for additional disinfection.

You will also need to provide pegs for tying up plants, approximately 50 cm long. If planting was carried out in open ground, then the tomatoes must be protected from the negative influence of northern winds.

Watering and care

Like any cultivated plant, tomatoes of the Lyana variety, despite their unpretentiousness, require attention: from time to time the bushes of the plant should be pinched, weeds growing nearby should be removed, and feeding should begin approximately 2-3 weeks after planting the sprouts and throughout the entire growth period.

Frequent watering is not required - about once a week, but you should not overdry the soil, as this may cause the plant to die.

An amazing fact related to this type of tomato is that, according to statistical studies, the yield of Lyana tomatoes in the Siberian region exceeds that of areas with a more favorable climate.

This phenomenon means that the size of the harvest directly depends on the proper care of the plant, which, for all its whimsical nature, is capable of growing in an environment unsuitable for it.

Reviews

Alexander, Voronezh

A tomato of this type always supplies the family with a large harvest, and the surplus is easily transported without damaging the fruit to the nearest market. During storage, tomatoes do not lose their appearance.

Sergey, Volgograd

Anyone who has ever tried to plant Lyana knows that tomatoes of this type grow in the garden without problems and without much care. And the yield is higher than expected .

Elena, Donetsk

For me, this is not the best variety, but it is hardy and therefore always helps out if there are poor harvests of other tomato varieties. The taste and presentation of the fruit deserves good marks.
