Instructions for use of Falcon fungicide, reviews

Description and composition of Falcon fungicide

Falcon is a fungicide developed by Bayer (Germany). It was synthesized to protect sugar beets and grain crops from powdery mildew. It helps solve the problem of fungal diseases on agricultural land, which is relevant in European countries with a cool and humid climate.

Important! Fungicide Falcon belongs to substances of the 2nd class of danger for humans and the 3rd for bees.

The drug performs not only protective, but also therapeutic functions. If the plant is affected by a fungus, then this Falcon fungicide will destroy it.

According to the instructions for use, the drug has a three-component composition. This integrated approach is aimed at preventing the development of resistance of pathogenic fungi to the effects of the product. The table provides a brief description of the active substances in this fungicide Falcon:

Substance in the fungicide Content, g/l Characteristic
Spiroxamine 250 Systemic fungicide that suppresses pathogens of powdery mildew, septoria, and rust. It destroys the vital components of fungal cells.
Tebuconazole 167 A third generation triazole with a wide range of systemic action, its use is effective in the fight against fungi that are transmitted by seeds. It penetrates well into the plant, is evenly distributed in it and, acting on fungi, destroys the membranes of their cells.
Triadimenol 43 A substance from the triazole class is an auxiliary in Falcon and enhances the effect of Tebuconazole. It suppresses powdery mildew and rust, but has little effect on root rot and seed mold. Slows down the aging of plants, increases frost and drought resistance.

This drug is produced in the form of an emulsion and a water-soluble concentrate. The product is packaged in 10 ml ampoules, containers with a capacity of up to 1 liter, as well as five-liter canisters. This form of release allows you to easily and quickly prepare the required amount of working solution. As stated in the instructions, its shelf life is 3 years. In undamaged original packaging, the product can be stored for up to two years.

Terms and conditions of storage

"Falcon" is stored for 3 years from the date of release. All this time, the liquid must be in a closed production packaging - a canister. Conditions for successful conservation are positive temperature, dark and dry room. Do not keep the drug together with food, medicines and feed for farm animals. Children and animals should not be allowed to use the fungicide.

After the expiration of the shelf life, the drug is disposed of. The solution is not stored; it is prepared in the volume necessary for processing during the day. Residues should be disposed of in a place not used for growing plants.

"Falcon" is considered the No. 1 fungicide for treating grains against fungal diseases. You can also use it in your garden plots, strictly adhering to the recommended doses. It destroys pathogens of a number of diseases thanks to its rich composition, which contains 3 active substances belonging to different chemical classes. It can be used in one crop rotation each year. It has both therapeutic and preventive effects.

"Falcon" is economical, low consumption, that is, it acts effectively even in small concentrations. Creates a protective effect that lasts for a long time. A stable effect is observed even under not very favorable weather conditions. If used according to instructions, it does not cause addiction to pathogens, this makes it possible to use it on the same crops annually. It begins to act immediately after spraying, no phytotoxicity is observed. Excellent for use with other pesticides and does not cause incompatibility.

Application area

From the instructions for use it follows that Falcon is a slightly toxic fungicide with a narrowly targeted action that can be used to treat even ripening crops. The composition effectively destroys pathogenic fungi on grain crops (rye, wheat, barley), sugar beets, and grapes.

In addition to powdery mildew, Falcon protects plants from fungi that cause diseases:

  • spotting;
  • rust;
  • septoria
  • rhynchosporiasis;
  • helminthosporiosis;
  • Fusarium

Falcon is used mainly for spraying large-scale plantings. Its use in private and small farms is limited.

Attention! Falcon is a highly profitable fungicide. If used according to the instructions, the cost of treatment with the drug is 5-7 times cheaper than with similar products.

Release form and analogues

"Falcon" is a concentrated emulsion or water-soluble concentrate with a strong, specific odor. The original drug is produced by the German manufacturing company Bayer.

For industrial use, Falcon is produced in plastic canisters with a capacity of 5 liters.

The retail chain offers a wide selection of drugs with a similar effect: “ Topaz ” → instructions for use with reviews, “Talius”, “Aviator”, “ Horus ” → how to use the product with reviews, “ Ridomil ” → use of a fungicide, “Soligor”. Specifically on grain crops, the greatest effect is shown by “Zamir” and “EMV”.

However, Falcon is the most economical and cheapest option of all listed. The only indicator in which Falcon is inferior to its analogues is the waiting period from the last treatment to the consumption of the crop for food (30 days versus 7-15 for other drugs).

The mechanism of action of the drug Falcon

Falcon is classified in the instructions for use as a systemic fungicide, that is, penetrating into plant tissues and spreading into them as the crop grows. The mechanism of its action is based on the use of a balanced work of three active components: spiroxamine, tebuconazole and triadimenol.

Tebuconazole and triadimenol are triazoles that inhibit the biosynthesis of substances responsible for cell functioning in fungi. Depending on weather conditions, triazoles penetrate into plants for a long time. Studies have found that spiroxamine accelerates this process.

Important! Falcon protects the leaf, stem and ear of the plant from mycosis.

The content of the components is selected in such a way that they quickly penetrate through the leaf plate deep into the plant tissues. The substances spread, systemically providing protection even to those areas that have received a small amount of the drug. Due to the fact that Falcon is quickly absorbed, the likelihood of it evaporating or being washed off by rain from the surface of the leaves is reduced. But the instructions for use contain restrictions regarding the period of watering and precipitation after spraying.

Having penetrated inside the leaf, the components of the drug suppress the growth and development of pathogenic microorganisms. Spiroxamine blocks the functioning of fungal metabolic elements. Together with two other substances in Falcon, it destroys pathogen cells, which leads to the death of microorganisms. 48 hours after treatment of the plantings, harmful colonies inside the plant are destroyed.

Attention! The active substances of Falcon belong to different classes of fungicides, so the development of resistance of pathogens to its effects is excluded.

The peculiarity of this product, according to the instructions, is that its use protects crops from the development of infection in the early stages of infection. It does not allow pathogen spores that land on the leaf to develop. They do not penetrate plant cells and do not infect it. A long period of protection gives Falcon preventive and therapeutic properties.

Composition of the drug

The fungicide contains 3 components: Spiroxamine 25%, Tebuconazole 16.7%, Triadimenthol 4.3%. Spiroxamine has the ability to penetrate plant cells and inhibit the growth of fungal spores. Tebuconazole is a systemic drug that penetrates into plant cells and destroys fungal spores at the cellular level.

Triadimenol is an excipient that enhances the effectiveness of all components. Falcon has a narrow focus of action, aimed at combating the disease of grapes with powdery mildew and oidium.

Advantages and disadvantages

In agriculture, the Falcon fungicide is widely used against pathogenic fungi due to the following advantages:

  1. Reliability in the fight against mycoses.
  2. Indelible by irrigation water and precipitation.
  3. Rapid onset of application effect and long period of protection.
  4. Ease of use.
  5. Cheap compared to other fungicides per application.
  6. Low toxicity to environmental objects.
  7. Lack of resistance of fungi and plants to the drug.
  8. Safety for crops throughout the growing season.

The negative point in the use of this fungicide is the limited range of action. It is used mainly to treat cereals, beets and grapes against mealy fungi. The possibility of using it on other plants is not indicated in the instructions.

Another drawback is that at storage and use temperatures above +5 0C, the effectiveness of the drug decreases. Therefore, according to the instructions for use, the product should be kept in a cool, ventilated area, and the plants should not be sprayed with it in hot weather.

Attention! According to the instructions, the last treatment with Falk fungicide is permissible no less than 3 weeks before harvest. For grapes this period is 5 - 6 weeks.

Rules for preparing the solution

The working solution of the Falcon fungicide is transparent, brownish in color. The instructions for use indicate that the composition should be prepared in compliance with the following rules:

  1. The solution is mixed immediately before starting treatment in a sprayer vessel.
  2. Fill the container 1/10-1/3 with water.
  3. Pour in the required amount of fungicide.
  4. Add water to the required volume and shake the container to mix the solution.
  5. Inflate the sprayer vessel and begin the procedure.

Important! The instructions contain a recommendation that the working solution be used on the day of preparation.

In general, the concentration of Falcon fungicide depends on the purpose of treatment:

  • if the substance is used to prevent infection, then dissolve 5 ml per 10 liters of water;
  • when treating infected plants, the dose of fungicide is increased to 10 ml per 10 liters of water.

Instructions for use for various crops

To get quick results from using Falcon fungicide, you should follow the rules indicated in the instructions:

  1. For spraying large areas of agricultural land, irrigation equipment with nozzles is used; for personal plots, sprayers are used.
  2. Sprayer heads are adjusted so that when spraying, a mist is created and the fungicide covers the entire plant.
  3. The procedure is carried out in calm weather at temperatures above +12 0C.
  4. To increase the reliability of protection, beets are treated with the drug twice. For grapes, more than four sprays during the growing season are not recommended. Cereals are processed once.

Important! The temperature of action of the Falcon fungicide is up to +25 0C. At higher thermometer readings, the drug is destroyed.

The absorption time of the fungicide into plant cells is at least 4 hours. It is optimal to spray with Falcon in the evening or in cloudy weather (the time before rain should be, accordingly, at least 4 hours). This is due to the fact that heat and direct sunlight can lead to partial evaporation of the drug. As indicated in the instructions for use, crops treated with this fungicide can be watered no earlier than 4 hours after the procedure.

The effectiveness and safety of treating vegetable, berry and fruit crops with the product is questionable. The original instructions for use of the Falcon fungicide do not contain recommendations for tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables and fruits. When fighting against mycoses, it is necessary to take into account two important properties of the drug:

  1. The waiting period for Falcon is at least 1 month, and ripe vegetables must be collected every day.
  2. Due to the persistent specific odor, the use of the product in greenhouses is unacceptable.

Attention! Using Falcon on agricultural plants not specified in the instructions is dangerous and can have unpredictable consequences. If there is such a need, test spraying of 1 - 2 copies is carried out before processing them.

Vineyards

The problem in areas with a temperate climate is the defeat of vineyards by oidium. Even after recovery from the disease, irremovable marks remain on the berries, reducing the quality of the harvest. Means for preventing this damage are expensive, toxic or cannot be used on ripening grapes.

Important! Odium (ashtray) is a common grape disease caused by the fungus Oidium tuckeri. Infection manifests itself in the form of a powdery coating on the plant organs.

The concentration of Falcon fungicide in the working solution for spraying grapes, according to the instructions for use, must correspond to the standards given in the table:

Year of application Concentration, ml/10 l of water
Disease Prevention
1st 3
2nd 4
3-4th 6
5th and following 10
Treatment
1st 6
2nd 12
3rd and following 20

Attention! If, after prophylaxis with Falcon fungicide, the plants become sick, then its concentration in the treatment solution should be as for treatment for therapeutic purposes.

The grapes are sprayed according to the following scheme:

  1. For the first time - before flowering, at the beginning of the period of throwing out the brushes.
  2. The second time - after the end of flowering of the grapes.
  3. The third is when the berries are the size of a pea.
  4. The fourth is at the beginning of fruit coloring.

Important! According to the instructions, grapes are not sprayed with Falcon fungicide during flowering.

The instructions for use indicate that the consumption rate of Falcon solution is 800 - 100 ml/m2 of leaf surface. When the drug begins to accumulate in the form of drops on the grape leaves, spraying is stopped. The minimum waiting period for a fungicide for grapes is 30 days.

Cereals

On spring and winter grain crops (wheat, barley, rye), Falcon helps to cope not only with powdery mildew, but also with spotting, rust, septoria, and helminthosporium. According to the instructions for use, fields are sprayed with this fungicide once in the period from the beginning of tillering until the appearance of the flag leaf.

The consumption rate of Falcon for wheat is 0.4 l/ha, for rye and barley – 0.6 l/ha. The waiting period is 30 days.

Important! The waiting period refers to the time since the last fungicide treatment, after which the plant is suitable for consumption. This parameter must be specified in the instructions.

Sugar beet

According to the instructions for use, sugar beets are sprayed with Falcon fungicide to protect against powdery mildew, as well as cercospora and fomoz. The concentration of the product in the working solution is 5 - 6 ml/10 l of water. Its consumption should not exceed the recommended rate - 60 - 80 ml/1 m2.

A maximum of two treatments are carried out on sugar beets with an interval of 2 weeks. For this root crop, the protective effect (waiting period) of Falcon lasts 21 days.

Sugar beet tops used for livestock feed are processed at least three weeks before use.

Attention! There is no information on the effectiveness of using Falcon fungicide on fodder and table beets.

Roses

The instructions for use do not contain any specific instructions for using the Falcon fungicide to protect roses from fungal diseases. According to some gardeners, it helps in the fight against common mycoses of rose bushes: black spot, rust and powdery mildew. Experienced gardeners recommend spraying plants with a preventive solution (5 ml per 10 liters of water).

There is an opposing opinion, according to which it is not advisable to treat roses with industrial pesticides, including Falcon. Their active use can cause shortening of the stem, reduction in the size of the buds, and excessive growth of stepsons.

Requirements for the drug

Before studying the description of the Falcon fungicide, it is worth finding out about the origin of the drug and what requirements apply to it. The developer is the German company Bayer. The fungicide was created to protect grain crops, as well as sugar beets, from fungal diseases, in particular powdery mildew. A feature of the disease is its rapid spread. If you wait for the first visible signs to appear, the harvest will be lost.

The fungicide should instantly destroy fungal pathogens, but not accumulate in the grain at the stage of milk maturity. Soil contamination is generally unacceptable. Fertile plantations poisoned by pesticides become unsuitable for agricultural work next year. European standards, as well as great competition in the grain market, have created a number of important requirements for Falcon:

  • The presence of toxic chemicals that can accumulate in plants and fertile soils is unacceptable. A minimal presence of chlorine is allowed, which can quickly decompose under natural conditions.
  • The drug must 100% destroy the fungus. Harmlessness also lies in the impossibility of the crops accumulating foreign flavors.
  • It is very difficult to prevent unauthorized people from entering fields sprayed with fungicide. The drug must be completely harmless upon contact with it. The maximum hazard class for people is 2.
  • For insects, birds and animals, the maximum hazard class allowed is 3. The fungicide should not cause damage to apiaries located near fields.
  • Fungal pathogens should not adapt to the fungicide when spraying plantings up to four times per season, provided that it is used in one place for at least five seasons.
  • The drug should be used for treatment and prevention, penetrate deeply into all tissues, and then quickly be neutralized.
  • Once the package is opened, the concentrate should be stored for at least 2 years. This allows you to use the remainder of the drug from a large package for the next season.
  • The simplest and most understandable instructions for using the Falcon fungicide, the price of which is reduced due to different forms of release.

Important! The cost of the drug was reduced by producing two forms: a water-soluble concentrate and an emulsion.

Bayer fulfilled all requirements. The only problem was the temperature of action of the Falcon fungicide up to a maximum of +25°C. In extreme heat, the drug is ineffective. Even if the fungicide was stored in a sealed container, it loses its effectiveness due to overheating. Falcon is easy to use, inexpensive, and additionally helps winegrowers fight oidium. Farmers can buy the fungicide in 5 liter canisters. For private owners there is a small packaging of 10 ml.

Precautionary measures

Important! The working time with the fungicide should not exceed 6 hours.

According to the instructions for use, Falcon is a low-toxic drug. Pregnant and lactating women, minors, people with allergies and cancer are not allowed to work with it: you should be at least 50 m away from the treatment site.

When working with Falcon, it is important to use personal protective equipment: a petal respirator, goggles, a waterproof apron, and a hat. After spraying, protective equipment is washed under running water, and work clothes are washed.

Attention! A hat is required when working with Falcon, as the product can accumulate in the hair and penetrate the body through the hair follicles.

Another safety requirement when using Falcon concerns ensuring the minimum permissible distance to an apiary is 1.5 km, to playgrounds - 150 m, to residential buildings - 15 m, to outbuildings - 5 m. It is prohibited to use Falcon in the environmental protection zone of reservoirs.

The instructions for use indicate that if the Falcon fungicide gets on the mucous membranes, they should be rinsed with plenty of water. If the drug is ingested, you must take any available sorbent (activated carbon, Enterosgel). If you feel unwell, you should seek medical help.

Store Falcon fungicide in a cool, dry place out of reach of children and animals, in compliance with explosion and fire safety rules.

Toxicity

Falcon belongs to toxicity class 3 products, which defines it as a low-toxic product. When using personal protective equipment while working with it, nothing threatens human health.

What makes it an environmentally friendly substance is its properties: decomposition in light and at temperatures above +25 C, complete disintegration after 40 days from the moment of use.

Compatibility of Falcon with other products

The compatibility of Falcon with fungicides whose active ingredients are strobilurins has been established. These include products such as Strobi and Quadris.

The possibility of using a fungicide with other agents is determined experimentally according to the instructions:

  1. Prepare small doses of 50 - 100 ml of working solutions of Falcon and the product being analyzed.
Advice! It is convenient to measure microdoses of drugs with a medical syringe.
  1. Pour both compositions into one clean glass vessel.
  2. After 2 - 3 hours, based on the state of the mixture of solutions, a conclusion is made about the compatibility of the drugs. If the color, temperature, transparency of the liquid have not changed, bubbles, foam or sediment have not formed, then the compositions are considered to be mixed.

Important! When preparing a mixture with a compatible product, Falcon is dissolved in the container first.

Analogs of fungicide Falcon

Aviator, Talius, Soligor are means for controlling powdery mildew on cereal crops with the same spectrum of action as Falcon. An analogue that fully matches its composition is the Chinese-made drug Favorit. The instructions for its use indicate similar characteristics and features of use.

The list of plants treated with Falcon fungicide is limited. Its effectiveness and safety have been proven only for grains, grapes and sugar beets. When fighting mycosis on vegetable and berry crops, and on fruit trees, it is advisable to use other means:

  • Horus is a fungicide for treating garden plants, strawberries, grapes, sunflowers, and lawn grasses;
  • Ridomil - used for potatoes, vegetables, grapes;
  • Strobi - can process tomatoes, cucumbers, fruit trees, grapes, flowers.

Important! All fungicides are applied only in strict accordance with the instructions for use.
