Photos, reviews, description, characteristics, yield of tomato hybrid “Blagovest F1”

Tomato Blagovest F1 description and characteristics which is presented in this article, is considered by almost all gardeners to be one of the best varieties for growing in greenhouses. In hybrid tomato variety Blagovest the best combination of taste, early ripening and productivity.

This article describes all the characteristics of the variety, its advantages and disadvantages, and also presents real reviews from those who have already grown Blagovest tomatoes and decided to share their opinion about them.

The tomato variety “Blagovest” was bred by domestic breeders and registered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 1996.

It is considered one of the best varieties for cultivation in greenhouses.

Description and characteristics of the variety

  • Hybrid, as indicated by the sign on the package of seeds “F1”. It will not be possible to grow such tomatoes and seeds collected on your own, since they do not retain the tomato qualities of the variety. Fans of the Blagovest variety have to buy new seeds every year.
  • Early ripening period. After emergence, the first ripe fruits can be removed from the bush after 95-105 days.
  • The root system is superficial, well developed and branched in width.
  • The bush is determinate, non-standard. It reaches a height of 150-180 cm. At this point, its growth stops on its own.
  • Designed for growing in greenhouses. When planted in open ground, few fruits are set, and in the northern regions there are practically none at all.
  • These are tall bushes, so as they grow, you need to tie the stems to a support or trellis at the very top.
  • The leaves are large, dark green, slightly pubescent.
  • The flowers are small, bisexual, forming 7–8 clusters on the bush. 6-8 tomatoes are formed on 1 brush.
  • The shoots are long and spreading.
  • The fruits ripen at the same time.
  • Resistant to many diseases typical of nightshades.
  • Important! Pruning must be carried out on time, since lateral shoots impair the yield and prolong the ripening period of the fruit.
  • The productivity is high; from 1 bush, when formed into one stem, about 5-6 kg of tomatoes are harvested.

Important! Productivity can be increased if you shift the growth point of the bush from the central to the side shoot.

Further care for tomatoes

The hybrid is unpretentious and does not require serious care. To get a decent harvest, you will need to ventilate the greenhouse, fertilize the plants and water the tomatoes with warm water.

Watering and fertilizing

Mineral fertilizers are used as top dressing and the tomatoes are watered with warm water. Watering is plentiful, but not excessive. If the climate is warm, then the greenhouse is left open; if it is grown in the Central Zone, then after watering it is ventilated for no more than 20 minutes, then closed.

Tying a tomato

The average “height” of a bush is 1.5 meters; with proper care, it can reach 1 meter 80 centimeters. It is recommended to tie the plant when planting it in a greenhouse; you can wait a while and tie the plant when it reaches 60 centimeters in length.

Bush formation

It is recommended to form the bush as follows:

  1. Tie several tomatoes together (no more than 3).
  2. Remove the lower leaves, leaving only 6-8 leaves on the plant.

Disease and pest control

Not required, since the hybrid is resistant to pests and diseases that often affect other tomato varieties. But gardeners often note leaf curl, which is not considered a direct sign of disease. In this case it is worth:

  • examine the bush;
  • pay attention to the lower leaves.

If the leaves turn yellow, this indicates a lack of nitrogen in the soil; to eliminate it, feed the plant with nitrogen or complex fertilizers. When using nitrogen, do not overdo it, because with too much nitrogen, tomato leaves begin to dry out and turn yellow.

Fruit characteristics

  • The shape of Blagovest tomatoes is round, smooth, slightly compressed at the stalk and tip.
  • Unripe tomatoes are white-green in color, turning bright red as they ripen.
  • The average weight of the fruit is 120 g, under favorable conditions it can increase to 150 g.
  • The pulp is dense and juicy.
  • The taste is sweetish and slightly sour.
  • The skin is dense and does not crack.
  • It has 2-3 seed chambers, which contain many seeds and little juice.
  • Dry matter content about 5%.
  • They are resistant to long-term transportation, so they are often cultivated on an industrial scale.

Important! The characteristics of Blagovest tomatoes depend on agricultural technology: sugar content depends on lighting, wateriness depends on the frequency of watering.

Your reviews of the Blagovest tomato and additions to the description will help many gardeners evaluate this hybrid more objectively and decide whether it is worth planting or not.

Advantages and disadvantages

According to the assessment of many gardeners, the hybrid received 4.9 points out of a possible 5. Among the advantages of this variety are the following:

  • High yield.
  • 100% seed germination.
  • Early ripening.
  • Simultaneous ripening of fruits, which facilitates the harvesting procedure.
  • Resistance to major diseases.
  • Excellent product quality.
  • Good shelf life and resistance to long-distance transportation.

Among the disadvantages of this variety are the following:

  • Suitable for growing only in greenhouse conditions. In open ground it produces a weak harvest.
  • Requires tying the central stem to a support at the very top.

Some gardeners did not like their taste due to their low sugar content. But this is most likely due to errors in agricultural technology (the bushes did not receive the necessary lighting).

The nuances of growing in open ground and greenhouses

The variety was created specifically for closed ground. This type is practically not suitable for unprotected areas. Fruiting here will be minimal, and the tomatoes will not acquire their true taste, since this process is highly dependent on air temperature and precipitation.

In direct sunlight, young bushes will receive severe burns, even despite long-term hardening before planting in open ground. Subsequently, they will recover, but fruiting will be delayed indefinitely.

Therefore, a variety bred for indoor soil is not recommended to be exposed to conditions unacceptable for it.

Features of cultivation

Blagovest tomatoes, like other varieties, are best grown by seedlings. The seeds of the hybrid are sown in a prepared soil mixture of turf soil and humus, which are taken in equal proportions. To improve the soil composition, you can add peat or sawdust.

Advice! Before planting, seeds should be soaked in warm water for 24 hours.

Blagovest tomato seeds are sown in late February-early March. Holes are made in the ground 1 cm deep. Seed material is laid out in them at intervals of 2 cm. They are covered with earth on top and watered with warm water.

At a temperature of 25-30 degrees, the first shoots will appear in 2-3 days. At lower temperatures the process will take 7 days.

The seedlings are transplanted into the greenhouse 60 days after sowing the seeds. By this time, the seedlings have grown to 20 cm and have about 6 leaves.

Hardening of the seedlings begins 15 days before planting. They are taken outside for several hours, gradually increasing the time spent in the fresh air.

Advice! Tomatoes of the Blagovest variety are planted in a checkerboard pattern or in parallel rows.

0.5 m is left between the bushes. The rows are placed at intervals of 1 m from each other. This planting scheme will ensure the normal development of tomatoes without unnecessary thickening, since this variety is considered tall.

Important! The depth and width of the hole should be 20 cm.

Seedlings are transplanted into open ground after the weather is warm outside and the risk of night frosts has passed. However, this method of cultivating Blagovest tomatoes can only be used in the southern regions.

For tomatoes, it is better to choose places where they previously grew:

  • Onion;
  • Garlic;
  • Cucumbers;
  • Legumes.

It is not recommended to plant tomatoes after:

  • Potatoes;
  • Eggplant;
  • Pertsev;
  • Tomatov.

The place for Blagovest tomatoes should be chosen in a well-lit area protected from the wind. You will also need to build a canopy over the bushes so that they do not burn in the sun.

Description of tomato agricultural technology

Growing the variety does not involve any complicated techniques. Sowing seeds for seedlings is carried out around the beginning of March. Seeds are checked for germination before planting, so it is better to buy a bag more. After which they are pickled, placed in a nutrient solution and sown to a depth of approximately 1 cm.

The containers are covered with a bag, after being well moistened, and then placed on the windowsill. Shoots will appear soon.

After 2-3 true leaves appear, the seedlings are planted in a separate container. It is best to take peat pots, since together with them you can plant seedlings in the ground. By the way, this is done when the seedlings are 40 days old.

The greenhouse is pre-prepared. The soil is spilled with boiling water to remove parasites, the walls and ceiling are treated, ventilated, and a nutrient layer is added. Seedlings are planted at a distance of 50 cm from each other. Ropes are lowered down to them, along which they will soon begin to crawl.

The agricultural technology is simple - you should water the bushes as the soil dries out, but not more often, remove weeds and shoots on time. Always ventilate the greenhouse. After 2 weeks, you can apply fertilizer. It could be mullein or a complex preparation. Some agronomists prefer only organic matter. It is better to fertilize 2-3 times. Watering during fruiting should be more abundant.

Bushes need to be formed. This is done in one stem. This means that until the 3rd or 4th inflorescence appears, all the stepsons are removed, only the main stem should grow. He must be alone. When the inflorescence appears, the vowel stem is trimmed and one lateral stepson is allowed to grow. Subsequently, it will become the main stem. You cannot wait for the inflorescence to appear at the top of the stem until pinching, otherwise the harvest will be low.

This is the “Blagovest” variety. We described the main characteristics and talked about how to grow it. As you understand, you will not have any difficulties.

Application

The hybrid variety Blagovest is considered universal. Delicious fruits with a slight sourness can be eaten fresh, as well as used in salads and vegetable slices. Their thick skin and small size make them perfect for whole canning. The high dry matter content makes tomatoes suitable for harvesting for the winter in the form of lecho or caviar.

Tomato paste can be made from substandard fruits. High yields make it possible to try a variety of tomato preparations, recipes for which you will find in the articles: Tomatoes for the winter: the most delicious quick-cooking recipes and Delicious Korean-style tomatoes for the winter: the most delicious recipes.
