Early ripening varieties of tomatoes - rules for growing in greenhouses

Are they really the earliest?

On the Internet you can find quite a lot of information about different varieties of tomatoes, and how long you will have to wait for the harvest from them. But sometimes there are many contradictions in the descriptions. The most accurate information about tomatoes can be found on the official website of the State Commission for Testing and Protection of Breeding Achievements in the State Register of Varieties that are approved for cultivation in certain regions of the country. There is also useful information about acceptable areas for growing tomatoes. It should be taken into account, since the ripening period of fruits in the south is shorter than that of similar plants grown to the north .

We are interested in tomatoes that ripen very quickly. The starting point for the duration of tomato ripening is the appearance of full shoots. In the State Register, three categories of tomatoes are classified as early varieties:

  • very early ripening, indicated by index 01 (on the Internet they are called ultra- or super-early);
  • index 02 lists tomatoes that ripen at intermediate times between very early and early varieties;
  • early (or otherwise early-ripening) tomatoes, the ripening period of which is the longest among tomatoes that quickly produce ripe fruits, they are given the index 03.

This indexation of varieties by ripening period is given in column 4 of the State Register.

Are there any special features of early ripening tomato varieties?

It is impossible to identify any common traits among early-ripening tomatoes. Each of them has its own characteristics. In addition to the ripening time, they differ:

  • by plant type: determinate and indeterminate;
  • by direction of use: salad, canning, universal, whole-fruit canning, for tomato products;
  • according to the shape of tomatoes: round, flat-round, elongated, cylindrical, elliptical, ovoid;
  • by fruit size;
  • according to cultivation conditions: for indoor or open ground, gardening, for commercial production, for processing into tomato products;
  • on disease resistance.

How to choose the right tomato variety

To grow a good harvest indoors, you need to choose the optimal early varieties of tomatoes for greenhouses with good taste. You can buy super early tomatoes at the market.

There are aspects according to which choosing varieties of early-ripening tomatoes will not be difficult.

Before you go shopping, study these aspects. It is possible to grow tasty super early tomatoes with good yield only if the right properties are selected. It is worth determining for what purpose tomatoes are grown.

  1. Plant size and type. Indeterminate tomatoes are used for planting indoors. These varieties require constant pinching and pinching. The bushes grow lush and tall. Determinate tomatoes are small bushes, the growth of which stops after the first ovaries appear; they do not need to be pinched - these are super-early, low-growing tomatoes.
  2. Tomato productivity depends on care, growing conditions and tomato variety. There are super early tomato crops that can grow and bear fruit only in a certain microclimate.
  3. Ripening – there are early ripening, early ripening and ultra-ripening varieties.
  4. The taste of a tomato depends on the variety; there are tomatoes that are intended for canning, quick consumption and long-term storage.

A super early tomato variety should be selected based on the conditions created in the greenhouse. Do not forget that plants for indoor soil are subject to higher requirements than other tomatoes. They must tolerate temperature changes and changes in the microclimate in the greenhouse.

Important! When choosing the right variety, pay attention to the ripening period. Experienced gardeners advise using early-ripening varieties of tomatoes for greenhouses, which produce a healthy harvest in a short time.

Very early tomatoes

There are quite a lot of such tomatoes in the State Register. Let's look at some of them, which can be cultivated using film shelters, or planted in open soil .

Aida

Bushes of the Aida variety are indeterminate, need tying and shaping

Tomatoes are grown in all regions of the country and used for cutting fresh salads. The plant is indeterminate, you need to tie it up and shape it, removing the stepsons. Round red fruits can weigh up to 160 g. They have an excellent taste, and inside there are up to 6 seed nests . The yield of quality tomatoes per square meter is about 15.7 kg. The fruits do not crack. Tomato is not afraid of heat. Plant immunity successfully copes with verticillium, crown and root rot, and fusarium wilt.

Regarding hybrids from my experience. Of the large ones, Jaguar and Sonata NK are good, KS are affected to a weak degree. Of the slightly smaller ones, these are Rhapsody of NK and Aida from Agros, KS are not affected. Pink spam is also good, but it is affected by the CS.

Tomatanya

Aksanta

The Aksanta variety is a productive salad variety, but also good for processing

Salad tomatoes can be grown throughout the country. The bushes are determinate, with flat-round fruits of yellow, almost orange color. They weigh 120 g each, taste good, and have more than 6 seed chambers inside. 4.3 kg of quality tomatoes are harvested per 1 m2.

Axanta Quite productive, but I didn’t like the taste - sour, I didn’t expect it from an orange tomato.

Nata-Nata

Amur standard

The Amur shtamb variety is resistant to verticulosis

The variety is quite popular in our country. It is grown for canning whole vegetables and fresh salads. Standard bushes are determinate. The tomatoes are flat-round, dense, red, with 4–6 seed nests. They gain 60–70 grams of weight. Resistant to verticillium blight. Plants produce 4.8 kg of tomatoes with excellent taste per 1 m2 .

I will give them a strip between the carrots, onions and beets and plant the seedlings when the threat of return frosts has passed. In the meantime, I’m selecting varieties that can grow without a garter. A very relevant topic. I have these varieties of tomatoes, suitable and not so suitable for such an “experiment”: Be healthy, Abbot, Milashka, Glacier F1, ... Amur standard, ... They are united by early ripening, unpretentiousness and the absence of mandatory pinching. Maybe someone from this list has planted something and will help you make a choice.

Pink miracle

Pink miracle is a variety whose determinate bushes require garter

In private farms throughout the country you can find these round and not small - weighing 100 g - raspberry-colored salad tomatoes that taste great. Although the bushes of these tomatoes are determinate, they need staking. The variety produces 2.3 kg/sq.m of quality fruit.

Pink miracle tomatoes are specific. True tomato connoisseurs choose this particular variety for breeding, but many also choose more common varieties, such as “Moscow undersized”, “cherry tomatoes” or “pickling miracle”. In any case, it’s worth trying to grow the described tomatoes in your garden and enjoy their taste and appearance.

Pink leader

Pink leader produces a harvest of up to 8 kg per 1 square meter of planting

These pink tomatoes, suitable for salads, can be cultivated in all areas in our country. Everywhere they will delight you with their excellent taste and respectable size of round red tomatoes weighing 150–170 grams . From 1 square meter of planted soil, up to 8 kg of tomatoes of excellent quality are harvested.

Last year I planted pink varieties “Amurskaya Zarya”, “Crimson Giant” and “Pink Leader”, but the children mixed up all the plantings for me, so I don’t know what was where. But those that ripened were very tasty. Just like real Crimean pink tomatoes, even sweeter.

Sweet girl

Sweet girl produces fruits that are good both canned and fresh in salads

Determinate bushes of these tomatoes can be grown in all areas of our country, but they must be tied up and shaped by removing the shoots. The fruits are good whole for home canning, and fresh - in salads. Tomatoes that have excellent taste grow 10–20 grams . Their shape is elliptical, the skin is red and smooth. The fruits are dense and quite numerous. A square meter of planting yields 3.5 kg of good quality tomatoes.

My “Sweet Girl” is also not very tall, but the fruits are 2 - 2.5 times larger than cherry ones. Now I’ve eaten a couple of creams - they’ve sat there and become quite sweet, yet strong, the skin is thin, smooth, just a fairy tale, I’ll plant them next year for sure.

Sanyushka

Sanyushka is a variety that is often confused with other tomatoes - Sanka. and Sanya, which have a later ripening period

Hybrid variety Sanyushka is determinate. The fruits are used universally. They are elliptical in shape, fleshy, dense, pink in color, and good in taste. Each weighs 110–135 g. The yield of commercial tomatoes is 1.8 kg per square meter. The variety has high resistance to disease .

Are there any varieties resistant to heat (+38°) and for the southern regions? We had Sanyushka this summer and really liked it, but it’s a hybrid...

6 Punto 7

6 Punto 7 bred in Holland, needs tying and shaping

A hybrid Dutch tomato that can be grown throughout the country. It is intended for salad use and is suitable for home canning of whole tomatoes. Its determinate bushes, which require formation and gartering, produce medium-density, red, egg-shaped fruits that are excellent in taste. They weigh 20–25 grams. From a square meter of bed you can get 9.8 kg of quality tomatoes.

This year I planted tomatoes 6 Punto 7 F1 for the first time. Despite the fact that July turned out to be quite cool in our region, by the end of the month the first red fruits were already being harvested. In July there were already about six clusters on the plant, each containing 10–12 fruits, they were larger in size than ordinary cherry tomatoes. The plant itself is quite tall, about one and a half meters, the stem is strong, but it must be tied to a support, the stem can break under the weight of the fruit, I formed the plant into two stems, and cut off the extra shoots. The plant is more resistant to late blight. Leaves with signs of disease appeared on neighboring bushes of other varieties, but the Punto bush has green leaves. I grow tomatoes in open ground.

Recommendations you need

  • When planting, plants should have an attractive appearance and flowering. If the seedlings are not fresh, the flowers will quickly wither and fall off - you won’t have to wait for an enviable harvest.
  • To achieve maximum fruit set, the bushes should be sprayed with boric acid.
  • If you decide to feed your tomatoes with nitrogen fertilizers, then they should be applied only in the form of an aqueous solution and in clear sunny weather.
  • To increase the size of flowering, use an iodine solution: 30 drops of iodine per 10 liters of water.
  • If you need to speed up ripening, this can be achieved by turning the plant towards the sun or cutting the stem.
  • To improve ventilation in the greenhouse, you need to remove 1-2 leaves at the very bottom of the plant once a week. It is better to do this early in the morning - the wounds will heal much faster.
  • Tomatoes must be picked while they are still brown and with the stalk attached, then other fruits will ripen much faster.
  • Garlic tincture, copper oxychloride or Bordeaux mixture will help get rid of late blight.
  • To achieve large fruits, the plant must be regularly shaped, that is, remove the lateral shoots and pinch out the central trunks.
  • Correctly remove shoots, leaving centimeter stumps. Only in this case will the branch stop growing again.
  • If you want to feed the plant not through the root, superphosphate will do. The solution will need to be prepared a day before use: 50 grams of superphosphate per 10 liters of water. Before spraying, the liquid is filtered.
  • In hot weather, it is better to plant tomatoes in the afternoon so that the plants have a chance to get stronger. If the weather is not sunny, then at any time of the day.
  • To avoid burning the leaves, foliar feeding should be done after 4 pm.

If:

  1. weak and pale plants - feed with mullein,
  2. tomatoes are very large - reduce the dose of nitrogen fertilizers,
  3. yellow leaves - reduce the dose of phosphorus.
  4. purple tint at the very bottom of the stem – there is not enough phosphorus, increase the dose,
  5. dull spots on leaves - too much potassium,
  6. dry leaves – lack of potassium,
  7. curled leaves - superphosphate should be completely removed, but nitrogen and potassium solutions should be added.

In the video - early tomatoes for the greenhouse:

Very early tomatoes for growing in greenhouses

Among the varieties of tomatoes that ripen most quickly, we can highlight those that the State Commission recommends to grow on private farms throughout our country, but only in film greenhouses. Here are some of them:

Little Red Riding Hood

Red Riding Hood perfectly resists diseases of the tobacco mosaic virus, fusarium wilt, and verticillium

These tomatoes are cultivated to produce salad fruits. The bushes are determinate, standard. Round red tomatoes weighing 15–20 g have a pleasant taste, rated excellent. The yield of standard tomatoes is 1.8 kg per square meter. Plants are immune to Fusarium wilt, tobacco mosaic virus, and verticillium.

End of August. The harvest is almost collected and processed. It's time to leave a review. We will talk about “Little Red Riding Hood” tomato seeds from the House of Seeds. I planted the seeds in early March, 2-3 per glass. Almost all of them have sprouted. In mid-May, I planted 46 plants in the ground. The distance between the bushes is 50 cm. This variety of tomatoes has practically no waste. All fruits are red and juicy. They have a sweet and sour taste. No rot or cracks. Not sinewy. The tomatoes are the perfect size for pickling.

Orange cap

The tomato variety Orange Cap has standard determinate bushes

Salad orange tomatoes of the Orange Cap variety grow on standard determinate bushes. They are round, smooth, soft, weigh 15–20 grams. From a meter unit of area you can get 1.7 kg of yield. Plants are resistant to TMV (tobacco mosaic virus), fusarium wilt, and verticillium.

Tomato seeds Four Summers "Little Red Riding Hood" ended up being a yellow hood, but we were not upset. The plant itself is very stocky. Doesn't cause the slightest fear for himself. No shaping or tying required. Bloomed 75 days after germination. There are many flowers. But they made a mistake with the color of the fruit in Search; yellow tomatoes grew, but their taste is sweeter than red ones, and even seems to be a little juicier.

Agros Bebop

Indeterminate bushes of this variety produce fruits for fresh salads and are excellent for canning and pickling

Indeterminate plants of this hybrid produce good fruits for salads, canning, and pickling. Cylindrical, slightly ribbed, red tomatoes weigh 110 grams. During variety testing, their taste was rated excellent. 1 m2 of planted area can produce 8.1 kg of excellent quality tomatoes.

GROS BEBOP F1 Published June 7, 2021 2 out of 5 have sprouted, the most powerful hybrid, the 4th cluster has already been planted, but 5 fruits have set in the cluster.

Cherry strawberry

Strawberry cherry pleases gardeners with delicious tomatoes and good yields

The fruits of the determinate bushes of this hybrid variety are used whole for fresh salads and home canning. Round, slightly ribbed red tomatoes, 20–30 g each, have a taste rated as good. Each square meter of plantings in a film greenhouse produces 4.4 kg of quality tomatoes. Plants have high immunity against Fusarium wilt.

I also always had simple brushes on it. I also envied Zosik that she had complex problems. And then mine “went apart.” I don't know the taste yet. It's splashed. But in past years it was super sweet, regardless of the weather and other conditions.

Tomato pests

The main enemies of tomato insect pests are:

  1. spider mite,
  2. whitefly,
  3. wireworm,
  4. bear, etc.

Spider mite

It settles on the underside of leaves, entangling them with a thin web and sucking out the juice. The leaf first becomes covered with small spots, then dries out and falls off.

Whitefly

A small (1-1.5 cm in length) insect with 2 pairs of white wings and a slightly yellowish body. It causes damage because it is a larva - the larva attaches to the tender leaves of plants and feeds on their sap. Affected tomatoes first dry out and then die completely.

Wireworm

A very well-known pest with an orange-yellow elastic body. The insect quickly eats the soft stems and roots of tomatoes, causing their inevitable death. One of the methods to combat this pest is to regularly dig up the soil.

Medvedka

It is one of the popular pests of tomatoes. It feeds on the roots of the plant. This insect, up to 10 cm long, has digging legs, with which it digs a hole in the soil and lays about 300 eggs there. After 3 weeks, the first larvae appear and immediately begin to eat the roots of the tomatoes.

Growing tomatoes in a greenhouse method seems, at first glance, to be a tedious and troublesome task, but this is far from the case: careful attention and care for the plants will quickly bring good results - both literally and figuratively.

Very early tomatoes recommended for open ground

In our area, for growing very early ripening tomatoes exclusively in open beds, not many varieties are included in the State Register. More often, for such cultivation conditions, early tomatoes of a later ripening period, designated by code 03, are recommended: Atom, Valentina, Gavrosh, Cupid, Lyana, Maksimka, Marisha, Parodist, Sanka and others. The varieties included in the group under consideration include tomatoes with code 01:

Abbot

The entire crop of the Abbot variety has time to ripen before late blight appears.

It is grown in personal plots and small farms throughout the country. Tomatoes are consumed fresh in salads or processed into tomato products. The character of the plant is determinant. Inflorescences are laid above the 7th leaf, and then after one or two. Smooth, fleshy, round, red tomatoes do not crack. Their weight is 73–140 g. 5.7 kg/m2 produces good-tasting, quality tomatoes.

Abbot is not inferior to Labrador - it is more powerful, bushes up to 60 cm, fruits up to 100 g, it bears fruit abundantly and every year even in the cold summer, managing to escape late blight.

Igor Pechurin

https://qps.ru/KF0Iv

Alpha

The Alpha variety is productive; from 1 m2 you can get 6.2 kg of marketable fruits

Tomatoes are included in the list of those approved for cultivation in all regions of the country on small plots of subsidiary plots and farms. Determinate standard plants form flower clusters over the 5th–6th leaf and each subsequent one. The fruits ripen red, round, smooth, weigh 60–80 grams. From a square meter of bed you get 6.2 kg of tasty, quality fruits.

Alpha - bush height 25–30 cm, fruits are red, flat-round, up to 150 g, very productive.
